Three years ago, I would've said go for it, even tho he was coming off an ACL. He's only had one productive year in Denver since then and he's got more knee problems. Microfracture or not, we've already got one receiver with a questionable knee. I'd rather not take on another one who may face yet another knee issue next year.

Pass.

i was wanting walker WAY OVER TO. i was wrong.

i have no use for someone who for whatever reason can't stay on a team. he's like another antonio bryant.

He got clearance at the end of the year physical that players MUST pass to be allowed to go home for the offseason and he did!

That doesn't mean that he doesn't have a regenerative condition in the knee (which is what microfracture is for) , it just means he's been cleared to participate in off season activities right now but the knee is just going to get worse and worse over time. JW tore his ACL last year and then had to go back again for an undisclosed knee procedure this year in the middle of the season ... that is not good.

Why do people always assume that teams haven't been trying to shop players when they've been released? Of course they would like to get a draft pick for him. Do you think NFL G.M.'s just haven't thought of something that is obvious to your average fantasy football player? Nobody wants to trade for damaged goods with huge contracts. Especially if they're head cases.

Here is the thing that boggles my mind. Why would teams actually announce that they plan to trade or cut someone? If you're going to cut them then why in the world would a team trade with you for them? That's as stupid as it gets. You're cutting your own legs out from under yourself by saying "We want to trade him but if we can't wait 2 weeks, and we're going to cut him anyway."

Why would anyone give up a pick, or player, for a guy they can wait 2 weeks for and sign out right?

Boggles the mind.

Maybe Denver just wants to cut him and that is really there only goal. If they can trade him, then that is just a bonus. Another team may want to trade for him rather than try to get him in free agency. It may be cheaper to get him at his current contract than to sign him to a free agent deal or maybe they have no shot at getting him as a free agent because he would never consider that team.

It may not be the best way to do business, but I have seen worse things in the NFL. We are talking about the team that drafted Maurice Clarett in the 3rd round.

Sure the team that doesn't want him anymore has no reason to give him a passing grade on his physical.

Terry Glenn probably passed his physical in Dallas last year.

If you're trying to trade him and announce it to the whole world, you're hoping crazy owners like Snyder will overpay since they're worried another team will go after him.

I can understand that from the perspective of the other teams but if your the team trying to dump him just say you're looking to trade him. Nothing more. If nothing comes of it then you could cut him but don't tell people that you're going to cut him in a couple weeks if he can't be traded. You've taken an incentive away from some teams to even think about trading for him when they can simply wait and try to sign him instead.
Another aspect of this though makes some sense for Denver. He's due a bonus of $5+ mil. If you announce that you're either trading or cutting him, then Walker's camp starts to thinking that there's no way that they see the bonus.... for the reason you just stated. Who's going to try to trade for him and take on that bonus?

That in turn may make Walker's camp reconsider restructuring the deal, so he can get his bonus money. Look, it's not like Denver has a plethora of stud WRs. Brandon Marshall is good, but after that you've got Stokley who is a slot guy. They need a #2 guy, but not for the price of Walker's bonus.

It may just be a last ditch effort to get him to agree to rework his deal.

Well, if he is traded, he needs to pass our team doctors physical. He passes, fine, if not go in another direction. I'd say at least check himout.

Not many good options in FA!

The rumor was that he may need microfracture in a few years from now(or that the Denver staff fear he may need microfracture in a few years). I still wouldn't trade for him. They will cut him and he will have to sign a incentive laden deal or a one year deal like Hamlin.

Let's hope his knee is not OK because he'll be house shopping in Arlington Va. by March 1st.

Dear Please God, make that happen. A head case and lockerroom cancer with a degenerative knee .. that would be better than Brandon Lloyd.

Must be awful to fail the year end physical. Worse if in Green Bay. Not able to leave. Stuck for months in a small cell in the basement of Lambeau Field watching the wind blow snow past migrating caribou.

Every time his name comes up in the news I can only shake my head because I know what is coming. I see very little interest being shown from the Cowboys.

I agree. We don't need to be gambling on whether somebody can play; we need to go with people that should be dependable and counted on.

Being that they need a vet #2 speed receiver, I would think they would have interest in him and some others as well. It would be dumb not to at least talk to him and have the team doctors check him out if there is a chance of coming to a fair agreement.

it's not that stupid when you think about it, he's injured, has voiced his displeasure, and is due a 5.4 mil roster bonus, teams wouldn't be jumping at the bit to trade for him even if they didn't announce that they plan on cutting him as well as trade him

it's pretty much a foregone conclusion that he's getting cut, noone is going to give up anything for him, maybe a conditional draft pick

I agree, people must forget how serious the word "microfracture" is...

According to the Denver Post, the Broncos plan to trade or cut WR Javon Walker by the end of February. Kenard McGuire, the agent for Walker, said he has not been in contact with the team.

His contract calls for a $5.4 million bonus this offseason, which is why the Broncos would like to get rid of him. Walker said he has no plans to restructure his deal.

Fantasy AnalysisLook for Walker to be playing elsewhere in 2008. Keep an eye on where he ends up, but remember the last time this happened to him in 2006 when he went from Green Bay to Denver, Walker had 69 catches for 1,084 yards and eight touchdowns with the Broncos. A new home could be just what he needs. When healthy, Walker is a No. 2 Fantasy option, but that could change depending on his team.

Pass............rumor is his knee is shot. We already have a WR like that.

If the player currently has a favorable contract, one that's not set to expire in the next year or so, giving up a late round draft pick might be a smart thing to do, as it avoids the need for getting into a bidding war with another team...

Now, in Walker's case, I don't know if his contract is all that "favorable"... I'm just pointing out that sometimes, using a late round pick on a trade for a veteran can be in a team's best interest...

I don't even need to read another post to know there are several "Let's Sign Him!" takes ahead. :banghead:
