All the more likely that we'll see a lot of 3 wides with Mercedes Lewis hobbled.

Its a good matchup for Dallas, because our #3 CB is a heck of a lot better than Jacksonville's #3 WR.
Ditto and if Coach Jack is smart I don't think he will stay in 3 wide long. They can't afford to risk putting Lefty in harms way because no way their OL holds up in 3 wide versus our front 7.

Totally agree. Ellis provides a matchup problem for Jacksonville in 3 WR. Without no TE to block down, Ellis will find often himself with just a runningback between him and Lefty in the base. Willie McGinnest had 4.5 sacks against Jacksonville in the playoffs for that very reason.

Parcells' has mentioned this in the past, that he doesn't go Nickel just because they line up in a 3 WR set. He said he would not allow teams to dictate his scheme.

I also remember him saying that if you can sucessfully get to the QB, you stay in your 3-4 base. We shall see.

Excellent point.

Ellis vs 3rd back I am picking Ellis and Jackonsville will be picking Lefty....off of the ground. :)

Especially if the 3rd down back is a 5'7" 205 lbs. rookie like Maurice Drew.

Sounds like a semi rolling over one of those road things that seperate the lanes.

I see our D in the Jax backfield so often that Leftwich for the most part won't have time to go thru his checkdowns. This will lead to ints and sacks.

This is the way most teams countered D.Ware last year.
They play the slot WR to his side and force him into playing the WR on the line.

Who did that?

You said "most teams" and that is just completely made-up nonsense.

There were some teams that did that in the preseason because the Cowboys wanted to run their base against even 3 wideouts.

But if you are seriously suggesting that most teams last year during the season ran 3 WR sets just to counter Ware, then you were watching some other team because that is complete BS.

Teams run their offense. When they need to pass, they bring in a 3rd WR and the Cowboys usually go into the nickle or dime.

This is just another one of those things where someone completely makes up a statement and acts like it is self-evident truth.

and on another note... almost 2 1/2 years on the board, and I just now discovered where you guys have been getting all of those cool smilies from.

Bingo!
My point exactly.
Look at the tape last year and I have, you will see us in first down situations playing base defense.
This offensive set was the most effective against us run & pass of any we faced last year. It keeps our OLB off balance and guessing.
We shall see?

First of all, Jacksonville doesnt have 3 decent WRs. Matt Jones and Ernest Wilford are average, and Reggie Williams is a major bust.

Second, I'm not worried at all about running the nickel against those players

I have all these games and more recorded and notice this trend.
O.K. smart guy check the game film last year of: Giants twice,Carolina, Oakland, Arizona, Detroit, Seattle, 49ers, Denver(about 50%).
Before you run your big mouth check these games and return with a knowledgable opinion.

I remember all of those games. And of course those teams ran 3 WR sets some of the time. The Cowboys did too.

Your asinine comment was that "most teams" consistently did that to off-set Ware, implying that if they were playing a 4-3 team, they wouldn't have used their 3 WR sets. You were implying that most teams knew it was simple to beat the 3-4 by putting another WR out there.

In the games you referenced, we were in the nickel and dime on the passing downs. We ran our 3-4 when they weren't running 3 wide.

The thing that utterly pisses me off about your comment is that we have too many SUPERBRILLIANT!!!1! fans here who think they have it all figured out. As if they can break down our entire defense by saying "teams just need to throw a 3 WR at us and we are screwed because we run the 3-4." There are people here who think that there is something so drastically different about the 3-4 from the 4-3 that the mere act of putting another WR out there somehow defeats the kung ** of the 3-4.

That's not the case. Our 3-4 will be awesome. When they go with more wideouts, we will run our nickel and dime which may be even better.

There isn't going to be an easy way for teams to pick apart this defense.

Watch the game this week close and notice Parcells deploys the 3-4 against the 3WR set on run downs (ie:1st & 2nd down).

Well this exposes your safties. Roy has to give help deep and that leaves two WR's in man to man.
We must counter the scheme by blitzing the opposite LB and hope you reach the QB before he finds someone open.
Watch you will see this is how teams play us.

Also blitz up the middle. Ayodele or Brady will be able to bring some pressure, especially if Ellis is coming from the right side.

All right man. I'll be watching the game and I expect the Jags to be in a 3 WR set all game because they clearly know... like you do... that all you have to do to beat the 3-4 is run a 3 WR set.

So I expect the Jags to be in a 3 WR set every 1st and 2nd down.

And if they are, then I'll eat a big pile of crow and come back here and admit that I am wrong.

Are you man enough to do the same?
