“Where he sits today, I think he’s definitely going to be a big contributor for us,” Jones said. “When you look at what our medical people believe and what they think ultimately is going to happen, he should only improve each day.”
Jones says the Cowboys have been encouraged by the steady improvement Smith is making in his rehabilitation.
“As we watch him every day he gets more and more nerve function to the lower part of his leg and foot. What we see out there, watching him move around [and] gain confidence as he moves forward, is certainly encouraging.”
So does that mean Jaylon Smith could one day regain his form that led many to call him a top 5 player in the 2016 draft?
“Absolutely,” Jones remarked. “You don’t know when that’s all going to come together, but it’s certainly possible. We certainly haven’t ruled that out. At the same time, what we’re seeing today from Jaylon, and what he’s all about, is something that can help us out as it sits today.”

Honestly I never saw all the hype Jaylon got coming out. Now that he's a Cowboy I hope it was all spot on. Aside from being a Cowboy, Jaylon seems to be the kind of person you would pull for making it back on any team. Seems to just be a fantastic person.
And I'm not saying it (RKG) on purpose
I think he meant he was unaware of Jaylon. He won the Butkus award in both High School AND College... that translates very well to pro production. He may be the first linebacker who wins it at all levels. Not sure what part of the hype you aren't getting. He can be a transformative player for the defense.

I share your evaluation. I think he'll be a very good player and I love the guy's attitude and work ethic. But I did not see a top 5, Von Miller-type player on film. I saw good plays, and great range, but not game-changing plays on a consistent basis. I hope I am wrong and he becomes "transformative."I didn't see a game changer in college...very good LB and great athlete clearly but didn't see the top 10 draft projection.
I expect and hope to gladly be wrong in this case.
What LB that came out in the last 10 years that you would say is better?I didn't see a game changer in college...very good LB and great athlete clearly but didn't see the top 10 draft projection.

@Sepia, thanks for all the media you bring this forum!! It's truly appreciated
I'm not saying everybody has to see the same thing but I saw Jaylon as on a very short list of best LB prospects coming out of college in my lifetime. That's one reason I hope he gets back to near pre-injury form. Because he would be on par with Sean Lee with even more pure speed. This guy was Urlacher-esqueI didn't see a game changer in college...very good LB and great athlete clearly but didn't see the top 10 draft projection.

If Smith becomes Urlacher I'll **** myself. We're talking borderline HoF'er thereIf smith pans out to become on the level of urlacher i would say he was well worth the red shirt year.
Urlacher was sooooo good and played 13 seasons.
Miller is a pass rusher and has been used that way. Notre Dame rarely used Jaylon as a pass rusher. Apples to oranges.I share your evaluation.
