Jaylon Smith on the Lee interception

Jaylon Smith dives to the ground for some reason just as Lee is catching the ball. Lee runs it back a few yards then Smith is up and running as a lead blocker. As they run down the field, Smith tried to put on the brakes to throw a block and winds up on the ground again.

Jaylon was diving to try and intercept the ball. Lee just snagged it before it got to Jaylon. Then Jaylon tries to dive backwards to block a Rams player who was pursuing Lee. Not sure what the issue is with him on this play.
 
I thought this was the pass that goof got his arm hit and injured his thumb after it bounced of his lineman’s helmet.

Yea, he was fine on that play.
Him and Lee were both reacting to the pass, Lee basically intercepted it from Jaylon.
Then on the run back it’s obvious that Jaylon saw a Ram pursuing at the last moment and attempted to get in his way to help keep the return alive.

The issue is that Jaylon Smith has become the new prime whipping boy for a lot of people, so some will go out of their way to find things to criticize him about. Like a few weeks ago when he waved off the camera and people said he was saying hi mom. LOL.
 
Nothing to criticize so much here. Could he have made a block? Maybe...not something defenders practice a whole lot.

Jaylon sees the pass and dives because if Lee doesnt make the INT he's there to get the INT or at the very least knock it down.

On the INT return you can clearly see he see's the guy going for Lee and he's looking to block him.

What he was doing in both situations is clear as night and day

That pass was gonna get picked either by Lee or Jaylon. Was glad to see Lee get it but Jaylon may have been better for the return. Our LB aren’t playing as good as last season for some reason. Maybe the scheme change or the D-Line not keeping them as clean.

Listen, I’m Jaylon’s biggest critic in regard to his poor play, but it’s obvious he was diving to make a play on the ball. It wasn’t like Lee caught the ball and then five seconds later Jaylon dove for it.
