Jaylon Smith

I'm glad Dak's deal didn't get done in March when it could have. No way he should be getting Russell Wilson money. I don't blame his agents for trying. I'm sure Dallas' original offer was a little more than Kirk Cousins deal. Meet in the middle.
Well, I think you’re going to be disappointed because Daks going to get Wilson money for sure.

Just wanted to say there’s no player I have more respect for than Jaylon Smith. After suffering a torn ACL and LCL with severed nerves and told his career was probably over, he’s come back to be a force in the NFL. This guy worked at Burger King during college so he had a little of his own money to pay for gas. He never stops smiling and his attitude is infectious throughout the locker room. I’ve never heard any of the haters here give him any credit as they are too focused on hating. He is one of the best storied in the entire NFL and we are extremely lucky to have him. We can all learn from his perseverance, attitude and dedication throughout his entire career.
Amen, bro.

Jaylon is my favorite player on the team because of his attitude and approach to football (production as well) but not only to football but to life. Great leader as well. Personally I see no weaknesses in his game....every player can improve but there is nothing that he cant do at a high level at LB.

"How to turn something positive into something negative:"
  1. Step one
I read so many paragraphs. And then I think to myself I'm going to give this post a like. And then they have to stick something in there at the end that just takes the thought away.

Over at DC.com there were several saying he would never play. I was a big fan of the pick and glad to have someone of his character representing the team. Also said since day 1 he would recover because the doctor who did his surgery said he would. Guy had a reputation as one of the best and put that on the line with his prognosis. Didn't matter to those who hated the pick, though. Worst part was when they all started quoting a disgraced physician who never so much as looked at his medical record much less personally evaluated him.

I didn't like the pick, not because I hated Jaylon Smith but because I thought it was too high for a player who wouldn't contribute for at least a year. I thought we could have selected him in a lower round, maybe in the fourth.
The scenario that the Pats would have taken him was mere speculation. Nevertheless, after I got over the selection, I was on board primarily because his surgeon was on the Cowboys' staff. I felt pretty confident he would bounce back but that it would take a few years.
I personally don't think he was 100 percent last year and this is going to be a "Watch out for this beast now that he's 100 percent" year for J.S. The guy is super fast, packs a wallop and has a non-stop motor. This defense is going to be nasty.
He'll resign with the Cowboys and get all his money. He had ALL the tangible and intangibles and is a super leader with high character too?
The Cowboys would be stoopid to let him go.
P.S., I still think he was drafted too high based on the reasons I articulated above. And I would have said the same if we had drafted Tom Brady in the 2nd. The draft is about perceived ability, talent and value AT THE TIME OF THE DRAFT! It is not an assessment of the player's career value.

Yeah having Jaylon Smith instead of a year 1 contributor probably a direct impact on losing to a 1-legged A-Rod in the 2016 play-offs.

Dallas invested in Jaylon , waited on him a year WHILE GIVING HIM ALL THE DOCTORS AND PHYSICIANS POSSIBLE for his recovery; & then gave him a shot in the starting roster after waiting a whole season..

Including paying him 1.8 million in 2016 FOR NOT PLAYING...

No he turns his back and wants out ? (i dont know)

Yeah, all smiles, awesome guy .

Nah but he will no doubt walk for more cash somewhere else on a team that's at least decent. We're not going to pay him what he's worth so I don't blame him.

This team will be decent , he just needs to be patient and wait for Garrett's exit .

You turn everything into a negative.

I’m sure glad we did draft him in the 2nd or we wouldn’t have him now.

Thought experiment, where would you draft Jaylon now in that draft knowing what he’d become, but also knowing he’d miss one year and spend another working his way into shape?

one has to take into account this site is filled with doctors/surgeons, attorneys, psychologists/psychotherapists, draft experts and contract negotiators.

3rd or 4th round ?

You must not have been here his first few years here.
I recall numerous people say that Dallas made a mistake drafting him, and he would never recover from his injury. Also, plenty of trash/criticism was thrown his way in his second year when he was able to start playing. Fans are a mixed bag. It's great that things have worked out well for him because he comes off as such a good hearted, driven, and positive guy.

I hated him when he was playing for Notre Dame.
Really, I'm a great Notre Dame fan. I loved when we took Zack Martin. And most people wanted defense, but I understand College rivalries

Probably late first round. Like 20-something anyway. Only because that draft was loaded. He's a beast now - was the best defender we had down the stretch last season.

I love the guy. He has a great work ethic and makes plays. This is a gamble Jerry made that paid off. There was no guarantee that knee would heal. I agree -- would love to see this man get a ring (with us, of course).
