They have him listed as LB on the roster but they are often lazy and wrong on roster info and might have just put LB because he was a LB in Green Bay's 3-4 defense.

His highlights all seem to indicate his primary skill is pass rushing and ST.

Both.

There are a lot of hybrid players these days. The most notable are guys like Khalil Mack and Von Miller, but you see guys like Kyle Wilber on every team, too.

They gave him #56 which I thought was telling that they have him slotted at LB.

Thats the thing with those Leo types. It really takes a supreme athlete to be one effectively. You're probably talking the pinnacle of NFL talent to be able to play both a DE and a 4-3 OLB position effectively. If you're not a supreme athlete, then you are likely to be completely ineffective.

However, to Wilber's credit he has stuck around a good long time and has made himself usefull at points.

According to Garrett's presser, he indicated he will likely be used in both capacities based on need. Therefore, one could surmise, while we are weathering suspensions, he may come in as a passrusher on passing downs. However, Garrett also noted, he is a Special Teams demon, so he will likely be used moreso on teams more than anything.

His ability to adjust, means he can be used in 'hidden' ways as well.

Interesting.

Maybe is a going to play LB. In essence he may be Kyle Wilber's long term replacement

Yeah, you see those guys in coverage all the time!

I don't think hybrid means what you think it means

A four-year letterman for the Rockets, he played in 47 games with 12 starts at defensive end, finishing his career with 124 tackles (70 solo), including 22½ tackles for a loss, 14 sacks, six forced fumbles and four passes defensed

Green Bay fans were hoping for a breakout season for Elliott this season.

In the last two seasons, Elliott has played in 310 snaps, so he has averaged one sack per 77.5 snaps. That's right where Peppers was when he was with the Packers (75.1 snaps) and that is a much better average than Matthews (127.4 snaps).

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy talked about Elliott this week during the NFL annual meetings and he said Elliott has a chance to do some big things this upcoming season

I play him as DE at 6 - 3 #355

He's a hybrid but I suspect you will see him on passing downs as the SAM or Leo or Jake. He's going to rush the passer more than drop into coverage but I think he can do that some. You'd have to respect he will as any DC is going to want to confuse the QB on occasion. He's coming more often than not from the OLB position. Think less worthy Ware type player; third tier not top tier.

The SAM is off the field in most obvious passing situstions and replaced by a slot (nickel) CB.

They did have the DEs stand up and drop in coverage occasionally this preaeason which is a new wrinkle for this defense.

They don't run 2 cover LBers all the time even in passing downs. They run a 3-4 at times as well as a 4-3 just not as often as the 4-2-5 in all its forms. Heck they even run a 3-2-6. We've run a milling shifting DL on occasion before just not much since they fired Ryan. Marinelli isn't real creative though I'll give you that for sure. Wish he'd blitz more but just not his nature I guess. Might see more this year but then I say that every year and nuttin' changes.
