Played a great game, and almost won it twice ( sack, overturned int) plus he had another int preventing a long gainer.

Also, just saw he was being trained as backup kicker due to Dan Bailey disk problem.

Guy has some wheels 4.3 best, and is 6' 1" and 212 lbs...

Also recall he is a hitter.....

Idea ... Move Jones back to CB, and give Jeff a try at Safety

Reactions welcomed.....

Keep Jones at FS, play Heath in nickel and dime packages as the other safety alongside Jones.

Think he can handle that role, if not more. Too bad some can't get over his rookie season.

the dude once again led our team in INTs, with limited playing time. Obviously it doesn't mean much, but either he is lucky or has a knack for being in the right spot and capitalizing.

Wilcox and Church are free agents. Probably bring back Church, but he is limited in coverage.

No.

He's a career backup, nickel guy.

There is a danger in placing way too much value in one game.

Had the same opinion for a long time but then checked out this.... No he's not absolutely ready but here's a few highlights, including one bad play noted at end of highlights... This page also doesn't include 2016. Not bad considering his limited playing time..

Source: his Wikipedia page

Dallas Cowboys

On April 27, 2013, he signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent, a team that scouted him in college and that was the first one to contact him following the 2013 NFL draft.[4]

2013 NFL season[edit]
During the preseason, Rick Gosselin of The Dallas Morning News proclaimed Heath could be the Cowboys next sleeper college gem.[5] He was eventually named to the Cowboys 53 man roster as a reserve safety and special teams player.[6]

Heath made his first NFL start on October 27, 2013 at free safety against his hometown Detroit Lions.[7] He started in place of injured starter J.J. Wilcox and finished the game with 9 tackles and a forced fumble. In that game he also was part of a highlight reel reception, when he lost a jump ball to Calvin Johnson. The next two games proved difficult, with Minnesota Vikings Adrian Peterson running over him for a touchdown and being beaten for three touchdowns while playing against the New Orleans Saints. After Wilcox returned from injury, he remained the starter after proving to be a more reliable and productive player. He finished the season with 9 starts, 60 tackles (sixth on the team), 6 passes defensed (tied for fourth) and 13 special teams tackles (led the team).

2014 NFL season[edit]
In 2014, he broke his thumb in the eleventh game against the New York Giants, at the time he was the team's special teams leading tackler (he finished fourth with 8 tackles) and was among the leading Pro Bowl vote-getters for special teams. In the playoffs he made a key pass deflection on a two-point conversion against the Green Bay Packers and replaced Barry Church in the starting lineup after he was injured in the second half.

2015 NFL season[edit]
On special teams he tied for the team lead in tackles (9) with Kyle Wilber and Damien Wilson. He also ran a fake punt against the Buffalo Bills

On defense he improved his coverage in passing situations. Against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers he had 2 crucial interceptions to keep the Cowboys in the game, but was called for a holding penalty with 59 seconds to play, that invalidated a fumble at the goal line and gave the Buccaneers a chance to score the winning touchdown.

Peterson didn't run him over(attacking the article and not you mahoneybill).

He stood up AP 1-1 till another defender and a Vikings player pushed Peterson from behind.

Understood and appreciated.... Thanks for joining the discussion.

Guy ha one good game abs now everyone wants him to build the difference around him lol. Let's be honest with ourselves. Heath got exposed early in his career because he was a rookie and got too much playing time due to injuries. It's proven he looks good in limited snaps. I wouldn't over expose him,

Exactly.

He's going to be a nice special teams, nickel/dime guy for us. There's no shame in that.

But this talk about how we should start shifting guys around to now make room for him as a starter is putting the cart waaaaaaaayyyyyy ahead of the horse.

Heath has ball skills and a knack for being in a good spot when he needs to be. The same most definitely can not be said for anyone else in the secondary.

I don't understand the hate on the guy, honestly. He was bad his rookie season, sure. But that's quite common.

He has grown and matured as a football player, and in limited snaps, has made more plays than anyone else on the back end of our defense. At the end of the day, football is about production. It's not about "potential" or "freak athletic ability". Give me a guy who is consistently around the ball, making plays over a guy who has all the measurables.

He has instinct, speed, and can lay the wood on guys. I, for one, hope he has an expanded role in 2017.

It's not hate. It's reality. He looked good against GB but that's one game. He's looked lost at other times this year.

We seem to do this every year with a player or two where a guy has a game out of nowhere, and we start to extrapolate well beyond what we should for the guy.

There's nothing here that suggests we should find a starting safety role for him at this point. He's a solid back up safety, nickle/dime guy. Not a starter for us. Maybe down the line he might be that guy, who knows.

After what I saw there should be an open competition for both safety spots next season. Barring the signing of a known commodity in free agency.

He has 4 interceptions in 4 years to Jones' 1 interception in 2 years.

He also has 7 pass breakups in 4 years to Jones 18 in 2 years.

The desire to rip Jones to prop up Heath is bizarre to me.

I have no desire to rip Jones, but what's the defensive snap counts for both?
I would guess Jones was on the field, defensively way more than Heath was by a large margin.
