Can anyone help me understand why this guy is still on the roster? He was literally the source of the overwhelming majority of big plays against us through the air last year. Perhaps some of that was him getting thrown into the fire as a rookie last year. I get that possibility... I just can't see where there has been much in the way of improvement. I feel like we have a bonafide scrub at that spot and it irks me. I'm having visions of Kaepernick attacking his area all game on Sunday. Am I just overreacting? ? ?

There's been plenty of discussion over Heath since the roster cuts.

Heath should see limited defensive snaps , and is one of the Cowboys best STers.

I am assuming we will see JJ the majority of the time but I still expect to see Heath get som snaps. When that happens Kaepernick's eyes will light up like a Christmas tree.

Duke's a scrub but for whatever reason he's a fan favorite around these parts so I'm sure someone will be here soon to tell you about all the intangibles he brings to the table.

He's big and fast. I think his ST ability is one reason he is still on the team, the other is his potential for being coached on how to take good angles and cover better. The coaches know way more than you or I about his development. If the coaches are thinking he will break through this year and "get it" then so be it, otherwise I highly doubt they would have kept him on.

We need him. He's depth and plays ST. Last year wasn't good for him, but he was a rookie and he seemed to be in the right place on multiple plays. He just didn't make the plays you'd hope for in coverage.

Heath was thrown into an impossible situation last year to have any kind of success. Kind of like all the street guys to play DL.
But that's never good enough for some people to understand and realize.
I'm sure every team has their player that people scratch their head about, rather warranted or not.
But on here, to some, the Cowboys have 63 players including the PS.

I think Heath takes a lot of crap. He was thrown out there as a rookie with defensive lineman who worked at smoothie shops the week before. Defensive lineman who were removed from the scrap piles and often returned due to their ineffectiveness. Most rookie safeties would struggle in that situation. He still had some forced fumbles and showed good tackling minus two games (New Orleans and Minnesota). He has nice measurables, works hard, keeps his mouth shut, and never complains. He may develop into a player due to these qualities in a couple of years. Right now, he is one of our best special teamers. We need to get off his back considering that he was a rookie and how terrible a front 7 that was in front of him.

Why is Heath on the team? Well he is a dedicated football player who plays safety and the Cowboys are weak at the position?

The thing that I saw was Heath was 90 percent always in the perfect spot to defend, the problem was he didn't locate the football, or got it jumped/muscled for the ball.

Can be fixed with coaching, he was in the right spot just needs to locate the ball now

He is not a Fan Favorite. He is just not hated by all.
BIG DIFFERENCE

He is a backup player that was forced into a starting role they he should never have been placed into.
He is a good ST player...which is important for a backup player.

Just because you and a few others Do not like him at all and think he is a scrub does not mean he is a fan favorite.

When Heath is mentioned the Superman capes just seem to come out of the wood works, kinda like a fan favorite. If you disagree then cool
