Interesting. Thanks for sharing that tidbit.

I've stuck up for Heath quite a bit in some threads. Not that I think he didn't give up a ton of plays. He's had his moments, though. The DET game last year was a good example. It was a homecoming game for him, and he both made some really nice plays up until that 4th quarter deep ball where he got outmanned/outjumped by CJ.

He probably was gassed by the time 4th quarter came around. I think if the guy can learn/coached to proper technique, he has the necessary phyical tools and I like the fact he was always around the ball. He just needs to learn to finish.

I'm not saying he'll end up being as good as OScan but OScan was like that too his first few years. He would be in position to make a play but always miss making it.

I heard on one of the Cowboys radio shows, the players are saying people should lay off of this guy. They said, he was the only one who played almost every snap last year when he started. Only time he wasn't on the field was when the offense was on the field.
We knew exactly when he was on the field because the other team was celebrating yet another successful long pass for a TD. I'm cool with him behind JJ but hope he never sees the field. People are quick to defend but perhaps that's why we are perpetually 8-8. Regardless of whether he is first team or second team at a spot, chances are he will see the field during the season and I am of the opinion that our backups should be strong in order to endure a successful season.

I think we'll know if he really is a scrub. For a UDFA he made few plays lat year. If he was a draft pick, I'd be more upset. I think he has a chance to be better but we'll have to wait and see. He could end up being closer to Bates or end up being another Lynn Scott.

He's a scrub. I understand that clearly.

Exactly. You already "know" he's a scrub. So why start a thread asking the masses to help you understand why he's on the roster? Several posters have already provided well thought out, reasonable explanations as to why he's on the squad (both in this thread as well as others).

Have you comprehended those posts? Or do you really just want to keep dogging Heath?

I think I know the answer.........

I must not have watched the same game, Heath was victimized the entire game against Det. Had it not been for Sean Lee, I'm sure he would have been eaten up even more. I like you Idgit and agree on a lot, but I can't agree with your take on Heath.

And it wasn't like he was a prime draft pick either.

The kid was a free agent.

To expect him to come in and play FS like Woodson is... well someone is out of touch with reality.

And Darren Woodsen wasn't Darren Woodsen as a rookie. He only started two games his rookie season because he still had to make the same adjustment to the pro game as every other rookie.

Can anyone help me understand why this guy is still on the roster? He was literally the source of the overwhelming majority of big plays against us through the air last year. Perhaps some of that was him getting thrown into the fire as a rookie last year. I get that possibility... I just can't see where there has been much in the way of improvement. I feel like we have a bonafide scrub at that spot and it irks me. I'm having visions of Kaepernick attacking his area all game on Sunday. Am I just overreacting? ? ?

He was a rookie making a giant leap from a Division III school to the NFL, expecting him to be a fully formed pro player last year or even this year is overreacting.

The potential is there for Heath to be a decent player; we just need to see how it plays out.

Someone told me he was good at special teams. But I guess JJ loves his pet scrubs. See Alan Ball, Sam Hurd, Jeremy Parnell etc.. As of now I see Major Wright and Robert Lester on the FA market now. All of them better than Heath. Why we don't upgrade? I have the slightest clue.

He's on the roster because he's the next John Lynch .

There's been plenty of discussion over Heath since the roster cuts.

Heath should see limited defensive snaps , and is one of the Cowboys best STers.
I keep hearing and seeing this. tell me what this Jag has done on special teams that is so great? i have not seen him do anything that so great that it should keep him on this team. he is a jag, and flat out terrible.

When Heath is mentioned the Superman capes just seem to come out of the wood works, kinda like a fan favorite. If you disagree then cool

That's absurd. The fate of the Cowboys don't hinge on Heath although the STs coach may think his job may ride on him and others like him. People who see him for what he is, a pretty good athlete from a small school, are happy to let him play STs and see if he develops.
