Jeff Ireland shown the door at Miami

Ireland was hired for the job by Bill Parcells before the 2008 season, along with new coach Tony Sparano, and that season, the Dolphins went to the playoffs with an 11-5 record. But in 2010, Ireland embarrassed the club when it was revealed that he asked Dez Bryant, who was then entering the NFL draft, if his mother was ever a prostitute.
This makes me shake my head to this day.

Lord Parcells Guy.

I wonder if they realize Parcells had been there?

What's the dolphins record since Lord set up shop in Miami? Ed Werder or Risen Star won't tell you that!

They actually had some pretty decent drafts when Parcells was there, but the angle you're going for here doesn't fly. Parcells was calling the shots, but he wasn't hands on like he was when he was coaching. He was simply the guy who put the front office together, not the guy out actually flying around to scout talent and pouring over tape in the film room.

The biggest problem they made was Chad Henne. You need a QB in the NFL and going with Henne was the wrong decision obviously.

The Dez interview cast a dark shadow on Ireland's persona and career. He probably regrets it to this day. In my mind, he's merely a forgetable part of our past and not a factor in our present nor our future. To me, he's just history.

The Dez interview certainly didnt help his rep, but there is other stuff out there as well.

The rumors coming out of Miami are that Ireland knew about some of the stuff going on with Martin and Incognito and also the incident involving Incognito sexually touching a female worker with his golf club at the Fins golf outing and not doing jack about it.

Add to that the team just sucks and it was curtains for the guy.....................I dont think he gets another job right away.............that Miami situation is just toxic right now for everybody involved.

I recall a few folks lamenting his leaving the Cowboys saying that Jerry should have done more to keep him, etc. Just goes to show success in one place doesn't equate to success somewhere else. Jimmy Johnson also comes to mind. Of course, there will still be those in the camp that say irelands failure is someone elses fault...those who never accept responsibility.

Good. Probably my least liked executive or coach in the nfl.

Being honest and saying what you mean is one thing. Sticking your foot in your mouth and the other.....; well that's a different matter. That's not even a 'did I say that out loud' moment.

He was hired by the worst gm's in the game at the time Carl hunt and Jerry jones, parcells liked him when he got here so he took that top scouting position from ciskowski.

It will be interesting to see where he ends up now.

I suppose this to to make Parcells look bad or overrated, in which case Jimmy Johnson must suck too since he flamed out in Miami as well...

Midway through the season, after the Dolphins lost to winless Tampa Bay and blew a 17-3 halftime lead at New England, general manager Jeff Ireland became disenchanted with offensive coordinator Mike Sherman and generally wasn’t too pleased coach Joe Philbin wasn’t doing anything to correct his offensive coordinator and close friend’s play-calling or game planning.

And although the Dolphins recovered from those hideous moments, Ireland became more upset with the coaching staff the final two weeks of the season as what seemed like a certain playoff run collapsed under the weight of losses to Buffalo and the New York Jets.

During those final two games, while the Dolphins underperformed on the field, Ireland watched from the press box or a club suite and complained about the job the coaches were doing. And executive vice president of football administration Dawn Aponte heard Ireland’s complaints.

And Aponte told Philbin of Ireland’s complaints word for word.

That’s how the relationship between the Dolphins coach and general manager broke. That’s why Philbin and Ireland didn’t speak much, if at all, after the season ended with the Dolphins missing the playoffs for the fifth consecutive year.

From what I understand the reason it says mutually is because Stephen Ross felt bad that he had made Ireland try to hire Harbaugh behind Tony Sparanos back. Which in turn cost him his friendship with Par cells and Tony so Ross felt inclined to not just fire him.
He sat back and let Philbin take the heat on the Martin issue aand along with the Dez issue he just seemed way over his head

Ireland is a piece of work... I hope and pray he doesn't land in Dallas ever again.

More about the Dolphins dysfunction:

Part of the problem points directly to executive vice president of football administration Dawn Aponte. It seems that when Bill Parcells hired Aponte to be Miami's capologist in Feb. 2010 he brought in a tough and experienced corporate in-fighter. She is clearly adept at forming alliances. And when she sees a threat, she is well capable of attacking it.
Ireland was a threat to her, according to sources who called me this morning.

Ireland was her boss when she joined the team four years ago. But after Parcells left in October 2010, she lost her chief sponsor. And she wasn't comfortable with Ireland as her supervisor. So soon after Joe Philbin was hired, Aponte decided she and the new coach could bond and that alliance could strengthen each person's position within the organization.

Aponte, club sources say, also found ways to ingratiate herself to owner Stephen Ross. Nothing wrong with that. He's the boss. She would often ask to join Ross on his private jet flights back to New York from home games, often citing a need to handle club business at the league office in New York.

Aponte, a former league and New York Jets employee, apparently used the face time with Ross and the help of Jay Cross, a Related Company president and a former New York Jets president, to convince the owner of her value and how she should not be under Ireland's supervision.

In Jimmy's defense he flamed out more so because of the QB in Miami and not his coaching. He lost the locker room because everyone saw Dan ran the show.
