On the first deep ball to Jenkins he was beat deep, to pretend otherwise is being a homer. However he did do a good job of recovering and breaking up the play. To not give him credit for a good job of recovering granted withthe help of a poor pass and breaking up the pass without interfering withthe WR was a good play. And to not give him credit for that is being overly harsh as well.

If's doesn't matter.

How can you know for sure.

Jenkins broke up the play against the Eagles with a dive and saved a sure TD last year.

Kurt Warner threw a similar ball to Fitzgerald last year, and he jumped over Henry and caught it.

Jenkins would have broken that play up last year.

So, I guess catchup speed is over looked by you. It doesn't count, because you know exactly how it would play out. A CB can still make a play if he is behind the WR for one thing. Again, a longer throw gives Jenkins more time to catch up and make a play on the ball.

What ever.

Last week Britt caught that bomb.

Dude, why are you like blasting how great Jenkins is on every post on this site. give us a freaking break...what is this your 500th post today on your manlove for Jenkins...

How about watching the game....

Dude, if any receiver is 5 yards behind you when you are the primary in coverage, a mistake was made. Coaches don't teach players to let guys get separation then use your "make-up" speed to make a play. I thought he played ok last night and still think he should start with OS in the slot. The only things I didn't like was that he was peaking a bunch and he didn't chuck Gage in the red zone. Very fixable things, but they should be addressed.

You do realize that I declared in my training camp report that Jenkins was outplaying Scandrick and deserved the starting job?

I have no side. I just want the best player starting.

Just like with Felix and Choice. Didn't like Felix pre-draft and loved Choice. But obviously I'm a much bigger fan of Felix at this point (who couldn't be, really?). No agendas here. Just want the best players on the field.

I like Scandrick....he gives max effort all the time.

I like Jenkins, but he takes some chances that dont need to be taken. Also, that play where he just stopped dead in his tracks and let the Giants RB just walk into the end zone untouched completely disgusted me.

I wanted Cason over Jenkins. Jenkins was my #2 choice last year. We had a chance to get my #1 choice and balked on it. Jenkins is a good player, but he needs to be less careless. I do like his toughness so far this preseason, though.

This year, I wanted Brice McCain and Jason McCourty. We drafted neither. Tennessee got McCourty and Houston got McCain. It will be interesting to see how those two perform in their rookie campaigns.

Still, I think Newman, Jenkins, Scandrick, and even Ball are a very nice quartet at the CB position.

Honestly Jenkins and Scandrick are interchangeable at this point.

People want Scandrick starting because of the bomb, but forget that Bey had a step or two on Scandrick last week during a long pass.

That may be the only time I can recall a receiver having a step or two on Scandrick deep. Even Newman gets beat deep some. Not sure why people continue to point to one play.

Exactly, just making the point that one play doesn't define a player.

And really there's a list of players that fans like to harp on for singular plays, but that's for another thread....:laugh2:

If you grade Jenkins on a little curve and throw out the zone play in the flat for the TD and only count the 5 direct targets in man coverage, you get good picture of how he played last night.

AdamJT13 could check this, but I've got Jenkins targeted directly 5 times in man coverage (including 3 successfully defended bombs) for a mere 15 yards.

That is a bloody 3.0 YPA.

Only in Dallas could you play that exceptional and not get credit for it or blasted for it or have those 5 direct targets overlooked due to one negative play.

It doesn't count the times the QB wanted to throw at Jenkins and couldn't due to great coverage like this poster has pointed out.

I am just glad Jenkins like most good corners have a short memory because he would be nuts if he played with some of the fan's mentality.

The reason why Dallas wants Jenkins to start is not only b/c he is a 1st rounder, but b/c he is better making plays on the ball. Scandrick is tougher and more consistent, but he has hands of stone & still needs to hone his ball instincts.

If anything the Cowboys need to be flexible, start Scandrick against heavy duty running teams (Steelers, Titans, Giants, etc.) and start Jenkins against pass heavy teams (Chargers, Colts, Cards, etc.). Both will have significant playing time I have no doubt. I just want both to continue to improve AND stay healthy (that means YOU Jenks).

One aside, while Jenkins could/should have stayed w/the WR on the TD, it was Hamlin's responsibility ultimately. Cowboys were playing zone (which is a *** anyway that close to the endzone), and Hamlin was late (per usual) getting over. Not only that but Hamlin is still bouncing off tackles (see Javon Ringers big run), not good, not good at all.
