In fairness, Mayer is a way better prospect than Ferguson. Like I said, I wouldn’t take a TE at 26 but if the logic is we can’t use Mayer because we have Ferguson….. well, that’s kinda strange.
Sure. But he’s a high floor prospect at a low value position.

He’s a better prospect than Ferguson was but if he’s a similar athlete I wouldn’t be shocked if they have similar numbers per target.

If we’re going to invest a 1st round pick in a low value position it is.

We already have a 4.7 TE in Ferguson.
Ferguson was 245 and ran a 4.8 forty.

Mayer likely weighs in at 265.

The cowboys are more likely to draft a TE than any other posiition in the offense at 26,any Te we draft at 26 will be a better option than any Wr that will be available,
I agree with you, I think all the worthy BPA WR's will be gone by 26 and TE may be BPA at a skilled offensive position, Oline though should still be considered.

Close enough. So if Mayer runs a 4.75 my opinion still doesn’t really change.
This reminds me of all the guys claiming Jalen Ramsey wouldn't amount to much in the pros because he only had like 3 interceptions in college.

Completely different…that’s assessing a DB only by interceptions and has nothing to do with athleticism.

All of the best TE weapons in football ran a sub 4.7. Not my opinion…the data is out there.

No, it's basically throwing a prospect out because one factor doesn't align with your notion of how a particular player should look.

The 2nd leading TE in 2022 was TJ Hockenson. He ran a 4.70 at the combine. If Mayer rolls out a 4.72, are you really going to quibble that his 40 time ain't good enough?

This isn’t my notion, this is what has been proven as an NFL threshold for premium TE play.

Hock has averaged about 650 yards / year after being drafted as a high 1st rounder. Schultz is in that ballpark his last 2 seasons as a 4th rounder.

I don’t consider Hock as one of the best, but if you do, are you happy with that production with the premium draft pick used for it?

I sure as heck am not.
