and franchised a TE. They act like they are scrimping....it is ridiculous. On JJ for picking and spending wrong around him.
Not to mention that they didn't do anything when Dak was on his rookie deal either. It's just Jerry trying to shift blame.

He didn't bring up the part where he fumbled the whole negotiation and could have had him signed way cheaper

Jerry is not wrong even though he's the inept GM who gave him that turd that keeps us hostage.
Now Dak either start carrying your offense or do us fans a favor and take the rest of your money and get the heck out of Dodge forever!1

Your ignorance is beyond comprehension.

He's paying Dak the going rate. The bad contracts to other players is what hamstring this team. He doesn't know how to walk away from non productive players.Tyron, Tank, Zeke should have been gone at least a year ago. I'm sure there still dead money for Jaylon too.

Jerry gave him that contract. It's not like Dak forced Jerry to agree to that deal. Dak was not worth $40 million when Jerry signed him and he is not worth $40 million now. I can only imagine what Jerry and Stephen will pay him if they extend his current deal.

While that’s true that $50M doesn’t just go away, you just push the bill down the road.

With the cap looking like it will be exploding over the next few years, there is minimal reason for you not to push these cap hits down the line as they will be manageable by the time it is time to pay the bill.

The last tier 1 free agent the Boyz signed was Brandon Carr like a decade ago, trying to use Dak's contract as a reason why they cant spend in free agency is laughable.

That's correct.

You push it down the road, and make it where it's difficult to compete in the future, with younger players.

There is no way to field a championship quality team this upcoming year without pushing Dak money down the road. But that's provided Jerry makes an effort. What's the point of pushing his money down the road if you're not going to alter your standard operating procedure?

We'll just have, at best, the same results. A fairly good team, but not a good enough team to compete with the best.

No kidding. This would be more believable if he actually made moves when Dak was on his rookie deal but he didn’t.

The main problem in Dallas continues to be the Jones.

All the Cowboys have to do is activate the restructure in Dak's contract and his 2023 cap hit gets cut in half. Yes, a lot of that money gets kicked down the road, but also remember the salary cap will increase every year too, so the impact won't be as bad as it looks today.

And giving Dak an extension now (with a future "out" year) makes sense. If the number looks high, remember it won't look that bad once Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, and Jalen Hurts get paid.

This cap hit thing with him is being way overblown in my opinion.

The only thing that is OVERBLOWN is how some of you think he is worthy of being our starting QB.
And bringing up names like Burrow, Herbert, etc., when it pertains to Dak is an insult to our intelligence and the game of football!
