For all we know, Jerry offered 130m guaranteed for seven years or something similarly stupid. It would technically be the most guaranteed but it would be a terrible deal for Micah.

And for him to say Micah has three years left is totally messed up.

He’s flat out saying that he’s entitled to the franchise years.

He doesn’t have three years. He has one year. He has “control”, or likely in his mind “ownership” for two years after that

Micah didn't exactly pull a fast one by asking his agent to review what was probably a $200M contract proposal. NO ONE does business that big based on handshake deals, and I don't know why Jerry expected otherwise.

I'm not on either side but to be fair, Jerry keeps making that statement but the sticking point may not even be about per-year money.

Jerry has a history of pushing for 5 year deals so it may be that Jerry wants 5 and Micah wants 4. Or it could be that Micah wants a no-trade clause like Dak and the Cowboys are not going to do it. Or it could also be about how much is guaranteed in the contract.

There are way more details and factors that go into a contract like that than just per-year average salary so Jerry repeating the same line over and over means little until the other details come out.

The fact that Micah and/or his agent have not responded to Jerry's repeated comment is very interesting though for many reasons.

Just trade him and be done with it. At this point he's not gonna be ready to play football even if he shows up.

Jerry said Micah is under contract for 3 years. That’s patently false. Micah is under contract for this year and this year only.

Jerry can prevent Micah from being a free agent and negotiating a new contract by exercising the owners franchise tag, which would automatically, without I negotiation, execute a one year deal that Micah cannot get out of. He either plays for that amount or he can’t play at all.

The next year, Jerry can exercise a second tag, again, without negotiation.

Finally, there is a third tag he can exercise but finally, at that point, the cost is very high for the owner.

The first two tags are bargains for Jerry in a situation like this, paying him significantly below market and below what other players, with better GMs will be signing next year and the year after.

So, Micah, being a first round rookie, can reasonably expect to have a first chance to negotiate a contract after playing in the league seven years which Jerry could, extend to eight.

Eight years without ever being able to decline unless he walks away from his entire career.

Average NFL career lasts 3.3 years.

Jerry is simply betting on being able to “use up” all of Miceh’d prime. His best years. Without ever having tontruly negotiate on somewhat equal footing.

I hope the other players and their agents are paying attention and I’m sure they are.

That does NOT mean I agree with him though.

I stated before id pay him slightly over TJ Watt, in spite of the fact he hasn't proven to be as productive. Id pay it based on youth and projections going forward.

If Micha isnt reasonable to that Id work on a trade. If I can't get value then yes im exercising the tag/s until I can either extend, get value or they are prohibitive.

If Jerry signs him to another ridiculous contract he'll be scrutinized for that as well. Im not sure he has a move he can win popular opinion with at this point. I don't think Jerry felt the need to talk to the agent. He had his salary people send the agent what was negotiated with Micah, and the agent told Jerry's people that that's not the way we do things.

I'd love it if the NFLPA would verbally slap him on the wrist for trying to work around the agent. It couldn't do anything of consequence, but it could emphasize that that is not how things are supposed to be done.

Jerry seems to think that talking things over with the player is the same as negotiating with an agent , but there's a reason agents like Parsons' are hired. Forget about what the player agreed to and negotiate with the person paid to negotiate his contract. Sit down with both and see what it's going to take to hammer this out. If the agent is unreasonable, let them know that and that Parsons is under contract and will be franchise tagged the next two seasons if they cannot work out terms.

The problem is the hypothetical at the end of your post. It never happens. I don't think the agent is even considering that possibility. Cousins was different in that he was a one time backup just happy to make those big paychecks. But no team that I can think of made a star player that doesn't want to be on the team play two franchise years. It just doesn't happen, and for obvious reasons. It's not only bad for the player, but really bad for the team.

We don't know who is being unreasonable. There is a sticking point somewhere, and we don't know it.

Agent is sleazy and doesnt hold the cards he thinks he does. Now he’s stuck with 5% of 53 million over two years as opposed to 5% of 200 million.
