Jerry and Irvin on Parsons contract

I don't think he lowballed. He circumvented the process of negotiating with an agent who is professionally equipped to discuss contracts. That's dirty and wrong.

If I'm selling my house and have an agent represent me in negotiations with the buyer, I'm not listening to anything that doesn't include my agent. Especially if an old dude shows up with a bag of cash and doesn't want any eyes on the 'deal'.
Except everyone agrees that Micah DID sit down and talk numbers. He is a grown man. He should accept responsibility. Micah has admitted he talked to him. It isn't a lie that it happened. Micah should have said no and let his agent handle it.

Jerry's spin is such garbage. The agent needs to be involved in the deal, especially with an elite player like Micah. You don't just spit in your hand and call it done.

How he thinks he's in the right is just mind-boggling to me.
The agent must be involved per the NFL CBA. The CBA clearly states a NFLPA certified agent must be present and involved in negotiations. Any argument about a “handshake deal” last March is invalid. Period.

Keeps getting lost but Micah cannot have it both ways on this.

Micah is taking the Dak path of saying it’s not about the money, but his actions show it is about the money.

I get that negotiating without his agent was likely to cost him money he would have otherwise gotten. But by Micah’s own words, he was willing to take less.

So by Micah and Jerry’s own comments, they had a number agreeed to. Micah was comfortable. Jerry was comfortable. Only the agent was not.

I don’t care about who Jerry should have been negotiating with, Jerry’s a scumbag, Jerry’s cheap (all of which I agree with) .. I’m just focusing on Micah talking out both sides of his mouth about not caring about money, when his actions are showing otherwise.

What Jerry is saying is completely worthless. Don’t believe me, believe what the current NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement says.

Under the current CBA, a club can only negotiate with the player's NFL certified agent, who in this case is David Mulgaletta. Violating this rule can result in the disapproval of any resulting contract or offer sheet. That is a fact.

So even if Jerry and Micah had some private “handshake deal” as Jerry intimates, it’s completely invalid. By the NFL’s operating CBA.

Jerry is saying this to win in the court of public opinion. He knows what he is saying is not valid. But he also knows a lot of fans will fall for it.
Whatever you say may be the truth...but the fact is that Jerry controls Micah's NFL life the next three years. Jerry does not have to sign him to a new contract. He has one already for this year. Jerry can franchise him for two years. MIcah can choose to sit, but if he does Jerry can just roll it over. Micah has NO leverage at all.

I mean, both can be true. They could have talked and agreed on money and years and all that, but of course that's not an official contract. There are still a million details in a sophisticated contract like this -- and besides, you don't have to be in the nflpa union for a handshake agreement to not be a legally binding agreement. Of course it's not.

Also, Jerry clarified the point about not talking to the agent. Stephen does that. Plus Jerry was flexing a little, saying that he has people (like Stephen) who do that for him so he doesn't have to.

My bet is the team wanted to send something over about what they'd agreed on, Muguletta got butthurt over not being included and convinced Micah that Jerry was doing him wrong, and here we are.

The CBA requires member clubs to negotiate with NFLPA Certified Contract Advisors if the player is represented by one. If the player represents himself, the member clubs can negotiate directly with the player.

In this case, Jerry knows what he did goes against the CBA because Micah has representation.
I’m not justifying what Jerry did or taking sides. Like I said, Jerry should follow the rules.

But it seems like Jerry is trying to play in the margins. I don’t know the rule specifics and I’m not looking them up. But Jerry obviously knows that this can’t be finalized without his agents involvement. Is Jerry allowed to talk to a player about what he wants? And can Jerry put together a contract based on those desires for an agent to review? Can Jerry even send out any contract without ever talking to anyone at all…player or agent? My gut says yes to all but I’m not sure.

He obviously knows the agent needs to read and either tear it up, counter, or sign off. Does that satisfy the agent involvement requirement? Obviously if Micah signs off without the agent, that is a blatant breach of the rules. But what satisfies the agent involvement requirement? And even dumb Jerry knows that a handshake deal or verbal agreement isn’t binding under these conditions.

I think Jerry tried an end run and put together a contract he felt satisfied the team and Micah and is buttt hurt that his agent refuses to even look at it.

The team does control Micah’s rights. But imagine what tagging him for two years would do to his relationship with the team.

The Cowboys having the “right” to do something is not the same as having right approach to handle an elite athlete. It’s not just about the money. It’s also about feeling like you are a human being and not a piece of meat being under control.

If the Cowboys end up tagging Parsons, it’s a “lose-lose” situation.

Jerry made it 100% cear. He said he and Michael have a deal. Years, total money, guaranteed money. Thats it.... deal is done. Agent works for Michael, not the other way around. It is that simple. Listen to the Irvin interview. Jerry cant be any more clear. They have a deal. Now sign the deal or dont.
Micah wants out. I don't think he wanted to be back.

In a normal world I would be worried about how this treatment would have a negative impact on signing future free agents... but this is Jerry world. We don't sign free agents, so no worries!

The only leverage Micah has is sitting out games and we lose. My question to the board and guys that know rules more than me. If Micah’s back injury doesn’t heal and an MRI doesn’t reveal any injuries, so basically he’s faking the injury and they can prove it, can they start fining him for not practicing?

So more concrete question is Micah has a back injury right now. Is he rehabbing it? Is he getting it tested by team doctors? Is he working with trainers to loosen it up? Is he getting massages (real massages not what Kraft was getting)? Is he getting any form of treatment for his back? Or is he just hanging around practice saying I can’t go because my back hurts?

At what point can the Cowboys say you either start practicing or you get fined? Or they say start practicing or we start team discipline?

Exactly, since we refuse to sign FAs who cares. Lol, sad but true. Jerry frustrates me to no end.

You don't understand the mentality of a man like Jerry Jones. He is not going to back down. If Micah ever is apologetic maybe Jerry will offer something more. Lose-lose? Maybe, but who will get affected more? The guy whose team has a net worth of more than 10 billion. Or the player who makes about 1/100th of that amount?

Jerry has said he didn't send a contract over.. he said he never contacted the agent.

and Micah and the agent have said they reached out a few times and neither Jerry or Stephen would take the call.

Micah has also said they never had any verbal agreement.
Jerry claimed they “wanted” to send the contract over and was told to kiss their azz. The agent disputed the kissing part but didn’t dispute the wanting to send the contract part, so maybe that part is true. As I have said several times, “wanted” suggests that the contract wasn’t sent.

As far as whether there was a verbal agreement or not, it’s a moot point and Jerry knows it. In no world would a verbal agreement with a player who has an agent be enforceable or even legal under the rules.

This is a no win situation. People saying the team has “leverage” are only looking at power moves like fines and the franchise tag. Yes those are options but in the end everyone loses.

Fining a player who happens to be the best player on the team because of a preventable contract squabble is a disaster to a team with a rookie HC and a defense that without Parsons is bad.

Jerry has completely botched this. At this point he should trade him because even if they try to fine or tag him, everyone loses. This was all so completely avoidable.

Micah won't sit out. He'll just tell the team he is not negotiating a long term deal during the 2025 season. Then in the offseason inform them that he never intends to sign a long term deal with the Cowboys and is willing to play under the tag for $26.5MM guaranteed in 2026, then a potential projected $31MM for 2027. Earn a cool $83MM over 3yrs and hit free agency at 29 and break the bank. He'd make QB money in career earnings that way and still be young enough to pursue a SB ring.

The only thing Jerry can do at that point is try to trade him or be happy with the 3rd round comp pick the team will get once Parsons leaves in free agency.

Micah can't really lose in this scenario despite what his detractors think.

Amazing we have fans who aren’t aware of CBA. Well done Bob!!
