I am not normally one to speculate about the future coaches this early in the season. I also do not think Jerry will fire wade during this season.

However unless there is a dramatic turn around this year (playoff wins or more) I just don't think Jerry keeps wade as HC.

I will go one step further and say I speculate that contrary to what Jerry has said in interviews, he has already thought of replacing Wade Phillips.

Now the question I am getting at here is...If, or when, Jerry hires another HC (whether that be JG or someone outside the organization) do you think there is a way we keep Joe D?

Normally you don't want the Owner/GM of a team dictating who will be a positions coach to an incoming HC. Jerry has pretty much done that in the past so it is not something that would be shocking.

However in this case I think it would be a wise decision. Furthermore I would go so far as to say that if the STs continue to do well all year I would try to lock up Joe D for a long time with an extension to make sure he does not go somewhere else.

So far this season he seems to have the only unit that has done well and stayed consistent. We have had up and down games for both the O and D but the other phase of the game has been pretty good and consistent. Knock on wood.

So I hope it continues and I hope that no matter who the next HC is with the cowboys...Jerry keeps Coach Joe D on as ST coach.

Ok...rambling done.:p:

I agree 100%. In fact this goes to show that coaching does matter. A weakness for this team was instantly improved by bringing in a good coach. Too bad we don't apply that across the board.

It probably just depends on the new head coach.

It will most likely be an issue about their personalities getting along.

Just like parcells cleaning out everyone but zimmer, because he liked zimmer and what he was about.

I imagine it will be the same thing. If its garrett I imagine he will stay.

I think that pretty much sums it up if there is a change.

Joe D has done a great job, no doubt, but if Jerry forced him upon the new HC, then he STILL hasn't learned any lessons and will continue to meddle.

Jones needs to FINALLY realize that he had his greatest professional success when he stepped out of the way and let the coach have full autonomy.

The next coach should be able to hire 100% of his staff and fire/cut/fine/promote ANY player he feels like.

That said, I fully expect Jerry to keep the status quo, and we will all be here asking the same questions in 3-4 years.

Jerry is a control freak. The only way he doesn't keep Joe D is if the guys he *really* sets an ultimatum about his coaching staff. (or Joe walks out with Wade)

Personally, I don't want Garrett as the HC. (just my opinion)

My issue with him is I don't think he is ready yet. I think he needs to serve under a mastermind coach. I think Garrett would be best served he is coached under someone like Belicheat, Holmgren, Dan Reeves, Marty Schottenheimer, or even Tom Coughlin.

I think Jerry should let JG the HC job rest of the season and see how he performs to make all the "JG for HC" happy. He can't do worse than Wade.

That will give all the options when he hires the new HC in the off season

I get angry at the thought of Garrett as HC. I don't think he makes the right decisions at the right time. He's not ready; he's still clearly immature as a coach.

If Dallas loses to KC and is sub .500 heading into the bye, Jerry will fire Wade. Not a doubt in my mind.

Garrett is a major part of the problem. No way is he head coach material. His play calling has been atrocious.

Even better idea. Make coach D the next HC.

Joe has been in the NFL for a long time IIRC, there is probably a reason he has not been a HC. I don't ever remember him being in the talks for a HC job in the NFL either although he may have and I just don't remember.

Maybe he does not want to be an HC.

Whatever the case, I doubt he will be named HC.

I think the head coach should have the final say on all coaching positions on the staff.

Jerry needs to stay the hell out of it.

It's a bad precedent when Jerry goes to hire a coach, but whispers in his ear, "But you'll have to keep this guy ... "

No way. I don't care who the assistant is.

Yeah those young up and comers like Garrett always get talked about being HC. I wouldn't mind this guy being our HC he's tough as nails and appears to have a no non sense approach the effect he has had on ST is clearly showing.

This team needs someone that isn't afraid to push his will upon the players and bestow a new attitude on them. I don't know if Joe D is that guy, but John Gruden and Bill Cowher are. I doubt that Cowher will take the job in Dallas, but Gruden would in a heartbeat.

I was never a fan Gruden being a coach here until this weekend, but the idea is starting to warm on me.

I don't know if Gruden saying good things about the cowboys in that last game is a reason to all of a sudden like him for the next HC after you saying you were never a fan of him being a coach here before.

I think Gruden can be tough but at the same time I think he lost that team in Tampa Bay.

I absolutely love Coach D, I just want the next coach to have full control over the coaching staff. If you are going to hold a coach accountable, let him at least have his guys.
