Don't kid yourself; we're headed towards an exact repeat of the post Aikman years. When the wheels come off Romo, they're going to come off fast. If we don't have a contingency plan in place, look forward to another 3-4 years in the QB wasteland.

The only difference is that Aikman gave us some SB wins and Romo hasn't come close. He is a talented guy and all, but you don't get better when you hit 33. That is the major issue I have with Romo, your body takes a toll with age and those skills that make Romo talented will start to erode, and then what? I was hoping that within the next year or 2 this team would start looking for a QB to take over and take us back to the promise land. Unfortunately I don't think Tony is that guy to get this team over the hump and carry a team when they need him the most or in a heavy pressure situation. Look just because you can't do that doesn't make you terrible it just means that other things have to be perfect for you to win. This team just doesn't have the talent across the board to be perfect for Tony. I think that if he gets a 4-5 year extension it's a huge mistake on managements part. This team will always be loyal even when the skills are gone and it's killed this franchise. I hate that they don't make it a priority to groom a guy It's like they are afraid that after a year or 2 he beats out Tony. Jerry you are too loyal to a fault.

Theres not a QB in this draft that I like, not even a little bit.

Dallas should wait until next season to get one to groom IMO.

They say Tyler Bray is looking pretty good at the combine and he did put up some prolific numbers at UT.

I dont think he's projected in the 1st, I might would use a 2nd on him and let him learn from the sidelines.

Tom Brady just signed an extension for 3 years/27 million.....if that's what Brady signed for, Romo needs to take a pay cut..

Actually, the deal Brady just signed has $60 million guaranteed in it. That would be the equivalent of a $120 million type normal contract where most of the guaranteed money is in the signing bonus and first coulple of seasons base salary.

Brady did not take one for the team, he just got $60 million guaranteed. That type of contract is unheard of in the NFL, figures Brady would be the guy to get one of those.

This actually might increase what Romo and Flacco are wanting, certainly not going to make them take a paycut.

Whats the difference between 5-11 and 8-8? Oh yeah, we get worse draft position at 8-8.

So, you're saying that we should just dump Romo and be a 5-11 team at best, just so we can get a better spot in the draft? Ok, gotcha.

Maybe he's saying that, I dunno.

But the truth is that difference between 8-8 and 5-11 is minmal, except it'd be a few less enjoyable games.

Everybody keeps saying this. It is foolish and not close to what happened with Troy. When Troy had to retire, we were really in cap armageddon, no room at all. For 4 years. We had zero money to devote to trying to get a top notch QB. That is why Jerry had to try to get one on the cheap. Randall Cunningham, Alexander Wright, Ryan Leaf, Clint Stoener, Vinnie Testaverde in his 40s, Chad Hutchinson, Drew Henson, Drew Deadslow, the most resources he devoted to getting a QB during that time was a 2nd round pick, and he foolishly spent it on what he thought was a dual threat QB that was really a fourth round pick level talent in Quincy Carter. Jerry got lucky(?) in getting Tony Romo without spending a draft pick on him. But he has proved out to be just another dud in a long list of nobody QBs. This go round, the Cowboys have the picks and the financial means available to where, combined with the new salary cap rules for the rookies, the team can devote proper resources to acquiring a real NFL-level QB. That doesn't mean we can't draft a bust, but the fact remains that Jerry has not tried to get a real QB in the proper manner since Walsh was drafted with a supplemental pick. If he does it correctly, there is a better than even chance we get a quality QB. We don't have to look forward to low quality scrubs coming in as potential QBs.

Do you realize, pardon the pun, how lucky Indy was to have two franchise qbs rated one and two at the top of the 2012 draft to choose from? That doesn't happen very often.
I think the last time it happened was the same colts team in 98. Manning,Leaf.
