It took this long to get to the point? Ball did not hurt us last season when he came in and played safety not sure why he will all of a sudden cost us now.

Why don't you just come clean and admit you're not a Cowboys fan? You joined in 2008 and not one single positive post from you. Not even a "good job" after either of the philly games last year? Just tell us all who you really root for. The skins? eagles? giants? Who?

So can we now say Jerry's not the worst GM in the league, maybe not top 5, but certainly not bottom 5 either?

I watched the offseason and wanted action, but I am glad he did it the way he did. I think I woulda moved for tackle, but as the summer went on, I started becoming comfy with Free/Barron. I hope like hell that does not come back to bite us.

There are two huge issues with one looming quietly in the background that will lead to a lockout in 2011 unless the players give in.

1. The owners will not sign a new CBA that doesn't include rookie restrictions on pay...the first rounders are no longer going to get 40-50 million guaranteed without ever taking a snap. The owners will not budge on this.

2. The owners are adamant about cutting the preseason and extending the season to 18 games...this will happen, and the players will have to go along with it. The extra preseason games don't make money, so swapping a couple of them for real games is almost a wash except that the starters play more.

3. The issue looming quietly is the fact that the owners currently give the players 60% of the revenues, and they want to reduce it. The players also want a rookie pay scale, but they still want the same amount of total money spent on players.

Bottom line...there will be a rookie pay scale in the new CBA. There will be an 18 game season. There will have to be compromise on both sides regarding where all that money that used to go to rookies goes...the owners want a bigger piece of the pie.

I hope there will be no lockout in 2011, but it is a very real possibility because the owners are businessmen, and they are looking at what will happen over the next 10 years of a CBA (possibly), not just what they stand to lose in the lockout year...they will be determined to make the players cave in to what they want.

It will look like a compromise, but you can bet your butt the owners will be getting exactly what they want...they have all the power because players will never want to give away a year of work and money and still have no agreement.

Nothing on free-agents. and now he gets his draft picks all in camp for very little money. he spent no money trying to re-up with Miles Austin. he cut his cost at LT and FS.so he has cut his team payroll a lot this offseason. now we all have to sit back and see if it works.

Let's get this straight cutting Flozell and Hamlin was not done to cut cost simply to save money. Without a doubt had these guys played up to the lvl of there contracts they would still be Cowboys. If the team did not feel they had the means to replace there production they would still be here as well.

The team will have to spend a lot of money in the near future on.

1. Miles Austin.
2. Jay Ratliff.
3. Anthony Spenser
4. A couple DE's.
5. OL will need to be rebuilt and it will take some cash to do it.

Because the team has not gone the way of the Commanders we will have no problem taking care of all those things no matter what kind of CBA is established in the future. You won't find many long time Cowboy fan thinking Jerry is in some kind of cost cutting crunch. Like I said before if the Jerry needed the money so bad he would have sold the naming rights to the stadium long ago.

You might be right on this one bro.... but I get the feeling that the owners put this one out there as a issue knowing that the Players Union would balk at it even if it was simply from force of habit. Now they will fight with them adamantly for this longer season one they have been talking about for years mind you then on the 11th hour give in to the Union on this issue as long as they get what they really want.

The Union will be thinking they won a major battle while the owners will be in the back room high 5ing each other thinking no way they fell for that one!

I think Zrinkill at least touched a nerve. All your post do seem to have something in common.

Jerry didn't spend a dime this off-season you say... is that really a fact or is it fiction?

Jerry for sure didn't overspend this off-season.

Here you are talking about lets see if it works so what is your definition on it working? If the Cowboys win the NFC East did it work? How about if we get home field advantage in the playoffs did it work then? What if we win another playoff game? How about we win the NFC Championship and make it to the Superbowl?

What if the team fall short of winning a Superbowl this season are you going to be back with a hurt elbow from patting yourself on the back saying I told you so? One thing for sure as Zrinkill pointed out you will find something about the team to complain about so even if Jerry spent the cash you deemed necessary you will still be a pessimistic nag.

It's Superbowl or bust for the Cowboys right now because we have the talent to be contenders point blank.

Those naysayers posing as fans find themselves in a unique win win situation they can complain all the way up into the time we are out of the Superbowl running or win it all. If we do not win they will be the first to tell you see I told you so. However if the team wins a Superbowl they take no accountability for all negative doom and gloom they spew every chance they get.

What makes your position on things so GREAT for you is you can eat sour grapes every season till we win a Superbowl and feel like some kind of Super fan!

Dude, get your facts straight before you start making statements like this. Check out this article from earlier in the year.....

"Before the start of free agency last week, the Cowboys had the highest payroll in the NFL for the 2010 season (at $124.3 million)........The Cowboys owe big money to some of their top players for 2010: Outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware is scheduled to make $7.8 million, quarterback Tony Romo will get a paycheck of $8.5 million, and cornerback Terence Newman will cash checks totaling $9 million. Guard Leonard Davis is expected to get $5 million in base salary....."

Yea, Jerry is such a cheapscate.....We only have the highest payroll in the freaking league this year.

It's funny how Jerry starts acting like a competent GM you have fans still complain about his every move.

yeah it's not hard to understand why when the possibility of missing the next 2-3 seasons looming.

Really? 2-3 seasons?

There is ZERO, mark that down, ZERO chance that football will be locked out for anything near 2-3 seasons. There has never been a time when they missed multiple seasons in a row and it's not going to start anytime soon.

They might lockout for a short period but I doubt they'll even do it for a full season, let alone 2-3 seasons.

windjc;3466707 said:
Lol. Really? Is that a real possibility, no NFL football for 3 years?

I think the possibility of that is slimmer than the "Dez will be a few weeks late to camp" mediots.

There is not going to be a lockout. There is SOOOOOOOOOO much more $$$ at stake than when the last strike occured. Its just not going to happen.

There will be football next year and the year after that and the year after that.

Jerry knows that. IN FACT, if Jerry was really concerned about a lockout, he would NEVER have built the stadium.

This team improved in the offseason. Not spending $$$ was the best way to accomplish that as it turned out.

I think there is a small chance that they might lockout for a small part of the 2011 season but I doubt very seriously they even miss a half of the season.

Cause he's not some flashy FA signing so obviously he's only going to hurt us. You should know that by now with folks from that crowd.

Got a feeling it'll be like the last CBA negotiating session. They'll reach a deadline, vote to extend the deadline, then repeat the process two or three times. It'll get done. It might get a little hairy, but the Green Bay thing that got published this week gives the owners that much more credibility in saying that player's salaries and the salary cap are getting out of hand.

Money issues for maintaining the league seem to be winning the field. Add upon the considerations for change including the topic of an extended playing season in two years and a shortened as well as changed training camp. Enjoy this year's camp intensely as a similar camp may soon be in the past...
