Actions speak louder than words in my book, and let's look at the man's actions. He can preach winning, but money and ego are more important...look at the record:
a) An incredibly successful businessman who has probably run his life by quarterly reports and demanded that his managers produce...So why would he continue to do things the same way, or allow subordinated NOT to produce?...ANSWER: He wouldn't if winning was his real priority. Unfortunately they are actually his ego, and making revenue on the team. There is no way that one would allow for a performance like what happened in Philly to be tolerated if winnign were really the key.
b) Statements like "I like having these reporters around...we are in the news..."...Obviously a team cannot win when presented with distractions like that so why would you allow for them to happen so you can be "in the news"?...ANSWER: The buzz generates interest and staying in the news creates revenue.
c) Removing Jimmy Johnson, and making a move that "probably" lead to Parcells leaving by getting Owens...Building a dynasty was not good enough Jerry, YOU needed to be the man in front???...ANSWER:He wanted credit. He got it early on, but then Jimmy's star surpassed him. That is why he began wrestling with Switzer during the last super bowl trophy ceremony. Parcells was getting credit for a turn around so Jerry needed to make a splash....you got one brother
d) Weekly press conferences from a GM...Why???...ANSWER: Jerry needs to be the face of the team, and when the face of your franchise is your owner YOU ARE IN TROUBLE (see Oakland for further review). Can any of you even recall what the Murchison family looked like? How about Landry, Dorsett, etc...understand my point
e) Doing it "The Jerry Way" has produced NO playoff wins in 12 years (the ONLY NFC East team not to have at least one), a 105-107 record, numerous coaches and assistants, and move sthat are widely seen as stupid across the league...So why would you let this continue if winning were the key?...ANSWER: It isn't. He just tells us what he thinks the fans want to hear. Actions Jerry, not words.
Bottom line is that you can say you want to win more than anything, BUT his actions do not reflect that.
HE wants to win if HE gets credit, and only by doing it HIS way. It's his team...he can do what he wants with it, but DO NOT BUY IN TO THIS CRAP ABOUT HIM WANTING TO WIN more than anything...he just wants to make money and he wants the fame.
He has succeeded in that, but will not have any rings for a while...which is probably his last concern...the sad thing is that if he really let football people run the show that winning would bring in money as well, but without him getting credit he won't do it.
I know I am missing several others, but I hopefully my point is understood. rom this point out despite the fact I will never drop in my support of this team, I will understand that Jerry Jones' words about winning are simply not true.
