This has been his fantasy since he was at Arkansas. He wanted to be a Football Guy like some of his other teammates. But without someone holding him directly accountable like a HC or GM is. And why he wanted to own a team instead .

When he realized he couldn’t swing the deal with the Chargers back in the 60’s himself he pulled out cause didn’t want any co- owners or partners who could do just that. Hold him accountable .

By all accounts, he was about to swing that deal until his father pulled strings to block the deal....So it's his dad's fault that he owns the Cowboys and not the Chargers

I don’t recall his father blocking the deal so to speak. I thought his Dad backed out financially cause he was concerned of the AFL financial status. And Jerry basically didn’t have enough money to go on his own and didn’t want a partner. Jerry even considered going to the Hoffa Teamsters.

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...hen he purchased the Cowboys for $140 million.
