Here is the thing. You can look at Dak's contract 3 different ways. Most teams try to sign the rookies they want to keep after their 3rd year. However, Dallas had Dak play on a very cheap rookie contract in his 4th year that only paid $2.0 million. We saved a lot of cap dollars at that time by not doing his contract early. Also, he played on the franchise tag for $31.4 million in his 5th year. He signed the 4 year $40 million contract in his 6th year. So here is how it breaks down:

The Dak Guy: After the 3rd year we got Dak for 6 years at $193.4 million or $32.2 million a year
The Content Guy: After the 4th year we got Dak for 5 years at $191.4 million or $38.3 million a year
The Dak Hater Guy: After the 5th year we got Dak for 4 years at $160.0 million or $40.0 million a year

Timing is everything in negotiations in the NFL. The longer you wait to sign the player the more the price will increase because the salary cap continues to go up. Jerry waited and it cost him more on the back end. However, he still got Dak at $2.0 million in his 4th year and $31.4 million in his 5th year when Dak should have already been on a new contract paying him more money.

Lol what’s he supposed to say?

Id rather have Baker Mayfield at half price and he’s not even that good. Problem with Dak is they can’t build a good enough team around him while paying him.
LOL. More ridiculous takes from you.

Dak isnt the reason this team isnt signing anyone in FA. Its their entire philosophy on this team. The last big free agent they brought in was Brandon Carr. Was Dak playing for the Cowboys then and getting paid? No. He wasnt. Stop acting like its Dak. Its Zeke, its the horrible Jaylon Smith contract, I can go on. Dak is what. The 7th highest paid QB in the league now? How is it that the Rams can build a roster while paying Stafford 45 million?

Look to the owners box and the FO.

Dak is the 7th highest paid qb
Dak is rated somewhere in 7-10 in terms of qb play
Why wouldnt jerry be happy to pay him at where he is playing?

Like dak or dislike dak, hes going to drop out of the top 10 in qb money by next year and theres little arugment that at that point his contract will not be in line with his play.

And he will continue to drop as after setting the market (Undeservedly) once Murray, Jackson. Herbert Burrows' new contract comes around.
Every agent uses Dak as a stepping stone excuse................ guaranteed!!!!!

It doesn’t matter what Dak makes. They couldn’t build a team around him when he was on a rookie contract. What makes you think they can build around Baker or somebody worse making more than a rookie contract?
Issue there was they were still paying Romo 20+MM per year to be retired. QB contracts do matter. They dont matter as much if done right, but Jerry mishandled the Dak situation from the start.

More pertinent question would be “Why do you treat your mediocre QB more like family than your estranged daughter?”
oh. lmao

No surprise, especially considering it appears $40M is now the floor for starting QB getting a new deal.

Jerry Jones Was Asked If He Regrets Dak Prescott’s Contract

Last offseason, Dak Prescott signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with $126 million in guaranteed salary.

Thirteen months later, Jerry Jones has no buyer’s remorse.

Reflecting on the deal with USA Today‘s Jori Epstein, the Dallas Cowboys owner said he’s happy to have the 28-year-old quarterback for 2022 and beyond.
Love the contract for the first 7 games Dak
The rest of the season Dak, not so much.

Mahomes signed his $45 million a year contract on 7/6/2020. Dak signed his $40 million contract on 3/8/2021. How did Dak set the market if his contract was signed 8 months after Mahomes? Seems like Mahomes set the market? I will wait patiently for an explanation.

Jerry's no dummy. Dallas has a decent quarterback. Let's hope he doesn't get wasted by the current coaching staff like Romo was w/the past one.
why should he have regrets? Dak is #13 in Jersey sales in NFL....that's a great return on investment. ticket prices went up by 18%. that's great return on investment. you have to realize, its not about winning championships. he may say it, but its a marketing ploy, its lip service.
Dak's 2nd. He's in the top 10 in that category too. BOOM! :lmao:

Mahomes is on a different level. I dont think his deal really relates to the rest of the league. Look at the length and amount of his deal.

Could Carr's agent use Mahomes as an excuse for his deal???
