Jerry: Hurd or Austin #1 WRs?

I don't care what he thinks as long as someone else is making the decisions. What Jerry thinks as far as football talent and ability gives some of the board yahoos that I have seen a run for their money. Stick to writing checks Jerry.

If you look up the job description for a general manager you will soon find out it involves more than writing checks. Fans are amazingly arrogant. Just because they follow a team and indulge in learning a little about football from the outside in they assume they know what is best, and how good or bad a coach, manager, owner or player is.

If Jones truly believes Hurd or Austin could be developed into No. 1 receivers it would be based not only on his observations but from input or feedback from the present and past coaching staff which would include Parcells.

On the other hand he could be feigning for drafting purposes.

I get the feeling that had the interviewer asked Jerry Jones about Jacques Reeves, Jones would have said that Reeves was a potential starting CB.

And Jones would have said similar things about any number of other players.

(I like Reeves - but if the right CB is there at #22, Jerry will pull the trigger on him. And I bet the same can be said of WR.)

This is the same old stupid over reaction ..... whats Jerry gonna say? ....... "those two guys will never amount to anything in the NFL, they are scrubs" ....

 ........

No, but he doesn't have to go that far with it either! It really makes me feel good about the Cowboys future when Jethro makes comments like that.

They have the raw physical abilities to be #1 WRs. Just a matter of finding out if they have it between the ears. That can be done this year- and draft one next year if necessary. For all the talk about this years WR draft, I do not see where it is all that great. Sure you have Calvin Johnson- but after him what wrs are so special?

Jarrett, Rice, Ginn, in addition to C.J. all looked impressive to me. Folks are talking about Meachem being good, but I haven't seen him play.:)

They are good WRS- but are they really any better then what will come out next year? I do not see it.

dont know if either are #1 but I am sure they can be #2 and #3 guys

You think these guys can be #1's but are convinced that Dwayne Jarrett will never be a #1 WR? Wow.

Just what we need heading into the draft, Jones thinking Hurd or Austin could be the answer to replace TO and Glenn.

It's hard to tell what he is thinking. Is he being honest or bluffing or just shooting off his mouth?

They are both still question marks just like a rookie coming in to the league.

I do not think Jarrett has the speed to be a top WR in the NFL. LIke I said- a poor mans Keyshawn Johnson.

Passing on Sidney Rice or another top WR to pick a player in an area of immediate need is the smart thing to do.

I think Jones feels like he needs to defend himself and his answers like this make me feel that way.

But what position is of such immediate need that we should pass on Meacham or Rice, should they fall to us?

Well...if I can think of a suitable response, I'm sure Jerry can. He is pretty smart after all. How about something like, "Austin and Hurd are very good receivers and I see them as a big part of the cowboys future for years to come.". See, nothing about being no. 1 receivers but still gives them there props. :D

Is that what he really meant??? It must really suck for some of you to have to grasp at straws. Obviously Jones must be doing a good job thus far...

Man I have been very critical of Jones for his mistakes of the past, but even I can't complain about this.

What's the big deal? He does not have to draft a WR in the 1st round.

I think you guys are totally overreacting to his comments.

Once again, go read his quotes in the article, nobody has grasped at straws on this other than Jerry. What has Jones done as GM the last 10 years that makes you think he's doing a good job thus far, this franchise can't even win a stinkin' playoff game.

jerry is the one making the decisions...like I have always told you guys...he doesnt know footballlllllllll! why must you fight me on this....look at this latest statement! you just make yourselves look foolish...dont let the homer glasses fool you!
