Jerry is SOFT in his thinking at his old age. Rather than rip the band aid off and do what's needed, he procrastinates and pontificates because hes struggling with critical thinking. It's called senility. The man "waffles" more than Eggo.
I think it's more that he's being contrarian to everyone telling him, and showing him how inept he is at his self appointed job of GM. He's going to keep doubling down on idiocy because screw you (not you personally, but everybody criticizing him). That is his current mindset.

What are you people really expecting to come from firing anyone at this point?
Do you thin Mike M being gone will stop us from giving up 200 yards on the ground each game?
Do you think it will really change anything this year?

We have both a personnel and a scheme issue.
So just don't even try?

Talk about taking the doom pill...

He doesn't want to pay MM off for the season and then have to pay another coach even more money.
Don't think money explains it. Much like 2010, Jerry has the option to promote from within for the lame duck season. Does he expect McCarthy to quit?

The money is sunk cost, and he won't have any more out of pocket if he dumps McCarthy.

Which team just fires the HC and then turns it around that season? Who is taking this job mid season when they can't bring in any of their guys, position coaches, scheme ect.
I would have loved to see Campo, Garrett fired a few times. I never wanted Mike M in the first place but I also don't see how firing him changes anything this year. I understand why you do it in the offseason when you can interview and hire the replacement you want. The only thing firing him would do is have one of his lame duck understudies up there beating his gums. Or is Zimmer and this catastrophic defense going to be the guy to turn it around.

If they don’t fire Mike, the season is likely lost.

Jerry is pretty cheap so wouldn't be surprised. He over pays for little talent and wants to pay little for high talent that is why we have 25 years of failure.

The Cowboys actually started playing a lot better after Wade Phillips got fired. It seemed to light a fire under the team. The Cowboys were 1-7 under Wade and proceeded to go 5-3 the rest of the season, including a win over a Peyton Manning led Colts team on the road. We won those 5 games with John Kitna at QB.
Some have suggested Garrett was undermining Wade. Offense changed after Wade was gone and Garrett became interim.
