Jerry is on with BAD Radio... Recap Post #5

Its kind of funny jerry is going to be part of entourage this year!!!

In regards to the financial problems Tom Hicks found himself in. You’ve said on the record that things are spread thin these days financially. Is that fair to say?
I really admire Tom hicks. He’s a really smart financial guy, so that shows you the times we’re in when he has these problems. There’s a way to do things dependant upon the banking system. Tom was a master at raising equity and when you have the greatest financial slump since the Great Depression, I understand the challenges Tom has. I was VERY nervous in 2008 when I was spending 1.2 billion. Guys like me were going down like flies in this environment, but the Cowboys were able to get some help in the financial world to complete the construction that only 2 other companies in the world have gotten for construction. These are trying times for everyone concerned, and I’m glad to have the seats and the luxury boxes. The tours are very exciting. Certainly I’m proud of everything we’ve gotten a chance to do. It’s about “wow”. It’s about perception. Only 7% of NFL fans have ever been in an NFL Stadium. They others participate through television. We want Al Michaels talking about the stadium on the broadcasts. Now we have to work to promote it. The work isn’t’ done when it’s built, it’s just beginning.

For those of us who sit over here and say why release Flozell and Hamlin, did $ factor into this at all?
When you’re in a cap system, you always have to manage your dollars. We are now ,and will in the future. You don’t want progress stoppers. We were fortunate that Free played last year. We feels strongly about Free. Certainly Flo was a safety net and someone we didn’t lose sleep over. He was one of the Top 5 or 10 at his position year in and year out. But dollars make a difference, yes.

Some owners have a reputation for being cheap, but we always think of you always putting winning above finances. As a fan that’s all we can ask for. We’ve never before heard anything about finances other than cap. But media were speculating without a cap you were going to spend like Steinbrenner.

I’m not going to get into talking labor, because I’ve already been fined for it once. But there is no free lunch in an uncapped year. There won’t be a free lunch projecting out into the future. To manage properly you can’t move away from the idea of having a cap in the future.

So the timing .. why wait until after the draft?
To be fair to them, so they can shop around before the draft. But mainly our season starts at March workouts as far as when we’re financially responsible for their salaries.

Can you remark about Roethlesberger? You had a QB with off the field issues yourself.
I’m not going to comment on him, but it would be unfair for any of us to equate specific reasons why anyone is being scrutinized right now. He’s not Quincy. That’s wrong to compare behavior. I’m holding a cellphone, and I know how something can be taken out of context. He did violate our behavour rules, but it’s not the thing to do for any club to point fingers at the players of another club. You might wake up in the morning and find yourself in a similar situation with a player.

You finally made TMZ. It’s become bigger than just what you said. It’s now become a media vs. privacy thing. But when you council rookies you tell them they have to watch themselves at all times. Especially with technology.

There is a lesson there that no matter what the circumstances are that there will be interpretations. That’s the lesson for me. I just said remarks upstairs that you could take out of context and eat me alive. It would make me sound critical or an attempt at humor or at being clever can usually backfire on you. One time I told an audience in Arkansas “Bill Clinton and I grew up in Arkansas. One grew up to forture, success and fame and the other became . I upset myself. The choice of four letter words, you should know better.

But it’s not cool that people video you and try to make a buck on DMZ? Seems like a violation of the Man Code.
Well, I don’t know those people, but there was nothing meant about the people I was speaking about on camera. 2 feet away I had someone who all he does is look for cellphones. I don’t need a bodyguard, but I need someone who looks for cellphones.

So on your acting skills … we see you in pizza commercials, and now we saw pics of you on the set of Entourage.
I’m leaving from here right now to do some shooting at the stadium. They contacted me and I’m aware of the popularity of the show. The subject area was fun, and it was a great set.

Were you familiar of the show?
Yes.

When you go by the old Texas Stadium, is it weird? It kinda looks wrong driving by it.
I have the same feeling. I had a feeling that day when it was imploded … I didn’t expect feel I would feel that way. It felt like an execution, not tyring to be dramatic. Those explosions were such a thud it was like a point blank shot. I was ready to get it going. I was there with the long time manager of the premisis, and it was sad. I had tears.

Naming rights still for sale, but the price hasn’t been met?
We’ve enjoyed Cowboys Stadium. If we do have an association, we’ll still keep a Cowboys association. That’s a good thing. It’s been great to have the recognition and visibility of having it called Cowboys Stadium.

I wonder how many other general managers around the league are heading to TV show sets to act 48 hours before the draft? Sounds like a great way to get ready for Thursday.

It's a bit like cramming just minutes before an exam. If you don't know it by then, you won't know it when you take the exam.

They should have the board wrapped up by now. What use is it to send around and stare it now?

Ah, so the rest of the GMs are off playing golf this week or taking 48 hour trips to Cabo. As long as they spent a lot of their time negotiating with boxers and rodeo kings the previous few months, they've earned the time off.

Face it, we have a part time celebrity GM. It's better than having a completely incompetent one like Cerrato, but not exactly ideal.

So he should spend 20 hour days working as the GM.

I don't know about you but that is great news. I want Jerry as far away from the draft as possible.

Yes, because the guy who has drafted Mike Jenkins, Felix Jones, Anthony Spencer, David Buehler, John Phillips, Doug Free, Tashard Choice, etc. over the last couple years belongs no where near a the draft. Or how about the GM who has by FAR the most players he's drafted over the past 5 still playing in the NFL? Or how about the GM who right now is the proud owner of one of the 3-4 best rosters in the entire NFL? Yes, please get him really far away from our War Room.

And before you come back at me with a list of names of players who didn't pan out to be superstars, bare in mind that you can't find a single team in the NFL that hasn't had a slew of early round picks during any 5 year stretch that didnt work out.

In other words, get off your high horse.

The night before my LSAT I got nice and drunk. I score quite highly and my more puritanical compatriots hated me:)

I had started that trend in high school by going to a Valentine' Day dance the night before my SAT which I scored well on.

End of the day you know what you know and removing stress is a good thing.
