Jerry is still trying to rationalize the Micah trade

“Yeah but they are going to have some tough decisions to make (three years down the road)”

-Stephen Jones
Sure, tough decisions in 3 years coming up on Dak and Lamb too. That appears to be more of the time to consider a rebuild.

This team appeared to be more of a team looking to contend now regardless what we think. And until negotiations went south looked like Micah was in the plans.

But yea, always tough decisions. And I think many fans would have been in agreement if this was the plan going in. But our FO saw this team with different eyes than most of our fans.

But a major rebuild wouldn’t have included resigning Dak last year to a record deal. I think some fans actually see this as we will be looking for his heir apparent next year which I don’t see coming barring an injury this year.

We’ll see how this season shakes out. Who knows, if we collapse this year we might truly be in a rebuild mode next year even if wasn’t our intention. We don’t have a crystal ball.

There are numerous statistics that show Parsons was one of those extremely rare defensive players whose mere presence makes everyone around him better.

As far as forcing adjustments and gamplanning by opponents, just ask any DC in the NFL. Every single one of them says often and repeatedly that he is unique and their planning puts him at front and center of their strategy.
Yep. That’s already showing up for Packers. His presence elevates those around him . Especially if he warrants double teaming, it’s going to increase others production.

I’m with you. Either have a real shot to win or be in rebuild mode.

We are stuck in some half measure situation because they either refuse to rebuild so Jerry can still get camera time or they just have no real plan or idea of how to win under the current system.

Perpetual mediocrity is really the worst place to be, but they won’t come anywhere close to a SB this way, and it hardly a small sample size.
And our owner had said he prefers hanging around the rim. Which translates to remaining relevant sells.

He can sell the hell out of mediocrity.

Well, I'm in the camp that thinks the window that opened up in 2016 is about closed. I hope they prove me wrong this season, but I'm not against getting 2 first round picks. Just the ones we will get from the packers will be more like 2nd round picks. Jerry always think the team can compete for a SB. He was planning on keeping parsons, but just proved he doesn't know what he is doing and shot himself in the foot and had to try to salvage things.

Even if someone beats him out in the sack count for the packers, he still may be the difference make for the playoffs for them. His detractors on the zone, don't seem to realize or like to mention that a player like Parsons gets double teamed.

Pass rushing talent.
But he’s no Reggie White.
Do you know what Micah averaged as Cowboy in tackles?
Are you going to say that his mere presence caused the other team to be afraid?
Here’s the most obvious and glaring example of how Micah elevates the rest of the defense

The difference isn’t just his sacks but the team’s total sacks. His presence allowed others to get sacks in a way that guys like Tank and Quinn didn’t.

2024: 52 sacks (Parsons - 12)
2023: 46 sacks (Parsons - 14)
2022: 54 sacks (Parsons - 13.5)
2021: 41 sacks (Parsons - 12)
2020: 31 sacks (Lawrence - 14)
2019: 39 sacks (Quinn - 11.5)
2018: 39 sacks (Lawrence - 10.5)
2017: 38 sacks (Lawrence - 14.5)
2016: 36 sacks (Mayowa !?! - 6)
2015: 31 sacks (Lawrence - 8)

How does it happen? His pressures are always near the top and he draws double teams at a higher rate than any other player in the league.

Fine if you’re obsessed with sacks.

Again, How many tackles did he have during his time with the cowboys?

I am happy to provide that information for Micah as well as some other elite pass rushers.

Career Average Solo Tackles
  • TJ Watt - 45
  • Micah - 43
  • Crosby - 41
  • Garrett - 29
  • Hendrickson - 25 (I even removed two awful years where he played less than 15 games)

Know why they are low?

Because these guys are in there to rush the passer, not tackle ball carriers.

If you go check out tackle stats you’ll see a ton of names you might not even recognize.

Know why?

They are linebackers who are not pass rushers. It’s their job. They make pro bowls and get paid for tackles.

Thank you for helping me identify another another typical Zone excuse that just shows people don’t know what’s important information and what is irrelevant.

Lol.. you beat me to it. I was gonna show the comparison with the top four you provided, wasn't even including Trey who just started doing work.

It's interesting to see folks pivot an argument/discussion when it's not providing the "win" they thought was apparent.

I almost posted a Jim Mora GIF but with him saying "Uh tackles?? Don't talk about it. Tackles??? You kidding me? Tackles?"

Or Allen Iverson!

“We talking about tackles! Not sacks or QB pressures, but tackles?. Not the job that I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last. We talking about an inside linebacker stat like tackles?!”

Lol... I actually accidentally intertwined their press conference classics at first

Tackles have shown fairly consistently to be a very bad indicator of player performance.
And here I was worried when cowboys couldn’t stop/tackle anything.
.
Okay. Maybe I seriously missed something.
What should be a key indicator of LB?
