Jerry is the bar

And that doesn’t include his leadership in new TV rights, networks and Salary Cap which have all aided his financial rise without more success on the field.

Cowboy fans have basically provided Jerry a pass for life with the early success which he’s brilliantly parlayed an Iconic label into the wealthiest sports franchise on the planet all at the expense of the fans who only wanted a winning classy well run football team.

If you recall when Jerry took over they were losing about a million a month. Jerry needed immediate success to turn it around which Jimmy provided.

Now after that had all passed and reality set in around the turn of the Century if Cowboy fans had responded like we did in late 80’s with less success on the field it could have forced Jerry’s hand with half empty stadium and revenue threatened.

Instead we’ve continued to provide Jerry financial support without success on the field. Something we’d never done before to such an extent. Tex even said we needed success on the field but Jerry brilliantly found a way to circumvent that with the Contributions he’s made to the Cowboys and the NFL which no longer demands success on the field.

Once the Stadium Rights lawsuit was won, Sponsors signed , new stadium approved , blackout rules lifted and PSL’s implemented.. game over.
Interesting.

The only story concerning owner fiscal crisis I am somewhat familiar with dealt with Art Modell. He solved his problem by relocating his franchise to Baltimore. Guess Jerry Jones was never as deep down into the monetary hole as Modell claimed he was. Thankfully.

Jerry paid cash for the Cowboys. He said it took everything he had to buy them. It’s part of why he was hands on. Without that early success the story could have been much different.

I’m not sure Jerry could have handled continued losses. Unlike most wealthy owners Jerry at that time was dependent on the Cowboys revenue.

If he had lost the stadium rights lawsuit he would have still been dependent on regular fans in the seats. I believe over time he might have paid the price if fans stayed away.

And if the new stadium wasnt approved he could have moved the team to like LA. Which most fans may not recall where he originally wanted to be close to attempting to buy the Chargers previously.

But I’ve always believed if Jerry couldn’t get his way or financially didn’t work out , he’d just sell out. He wasn’t about to step down as GM and never will. This is his baby, his passion since he left University of Arkansas to own a team where he could build and run a team without the direct accountability coaches , GM’s or VP are subject to.

And all of the financial brilliance had paved the way for him to continue without the excellent level of success on the field. Of course he’s had to stay front and center promoting his product and pleading to the fans and media his desire to win.

What cannot be done is compare this franchise to any other, in any sport, in history. The continued success ratings and revenue wise despite little success in the actual sport defies logic.

There was a word used back in the 70's to describe the attention drawn to the Cowboys, which actually transcended the sport back then as well, it was "Cowboys Mystique" and it defied logic because there were more successful teams in the sport. That led to the America's Team moniker because this was not lost on those looking at replays of away games. This wasn't a fan base that travelled well, it was one not governed by geography. Those away fans were away. And no one can put their finger on how or why this happened.

Once the team was turned by Johnson and the Big Top secured, any rules governing Booger's decisions and actions were gone. Even Crazy Al had to bend in the end but Booger does not have to so his decisions carry no repercussions. Anyone think he can't sell out that stadium with 7M to pull from and one of the most visitor friendly venues in the league? It is not just a football team, it is much more than that.

Put yourself in Bogger's shoes, you are bulletproof and 75 years old. You made your sacrifice in order to get the Big Top and life is good. Why in the hell would you not want it exactly as you want it? He's enjoying this quasi celebrity life and no one, NO ONE, is making waves. Especially his HC. Everyone in the organization knows their function, keep Booger happy and Garrett keeps Booger happy because he knows exactly how to do that.

Bar? There is no bar when it comes to the Dallas Cowboys franchise.

Romo, TO, Terry Glenn, D'Ware, D'Law, Gurode, Witten, Dez, Amari, Dak, Zeke, DeMarco Murray, and others will have to win in spite of not only Jerry and his FO, but in spite of the coaching staff.

So far, that hasn't happened.

It has often been stated by many fans that the “bar has been lowered” in Dallas. Perhaps we should clarify that statement a little further.

I believe the more correct statement is “JERRY is the bar in Dallas.” In other words success is simply what Jerry says it is. He doesn’t measure his HC or his team (like other owners) by results like winning or losing in the playoffs. He uses “relevance” as a bar of measurement. He uses his cash flow as a bar. He uses his feelings as a bar. He uses Johnny Walker Blue....but I digress, lol.

One of the unfortunate problems this has created within the culture of the Dallas Cowboys the last 20+ seasons is our owner's stated belief that being “relevant” at season’s end was somehow an accomplishment. Without even winning in the playoffs. If I owned this team, my HC with 8 seasons and 1 playoff win would be shown the door if they don’t make the playoffs OR don't win at least two playoff games. That should be the bar.

Fortunately, this can be remedied with a deep playoff run. Then the bar will speak for itself by the excellence of achievement. I hope the Cowboys are done losing this season. They are capable of a deep run in these playoffs but it must start Sunday.
:lmao2:Looking quickly at your title of this thread I had to do a double. Thought it said, "Jerry Is AT The Bar".

The more the Cowboys win, the more Jerry wins so this ridiculous argument holds no weight. Jerry wants to win more than anyone.

I saw the OP title and my brain immediately went to “Jerry is AT the bar”

Well said Coach. Jerry at any time can publicly declare a whole season a success based on his terms, his metrics, and his reality- not the metrics of winning in the playoffs. Crazy.

But he only wants to win his way. Big difference!

Imagine if all NFL owners chose to be their own GM following Jerry’s lead and or meddling with their HC’s seeking credit as a Football Guy, Jerry could probably dominate the league.

Until then the Cowboys are at a distinct disadvantage.

Personality disorders are not chosen. They are part of an individual's mental makeup. It is why a lot of Jerry Joneses are not running around the league or other sports' franchises.

Jones is an atypical franchise owner. So yes. He does want to win his way. However, he thinks his way is the best way. From his perspective, and not yours, mine or anyone'e else's, there is no 'big difference' winning his way.

Narcissism.

I would say Jerrah goes to the BAR a LOT. Sketchy decisions are the result.

I’m not sure he necessarily believes his way is the best but it’s the only way with him. I can see how some believe he thinks it’s the best way.

In the insurance business I dealt with numerous egotistical owners who were determined to do it their way or the highway despite any consulting expertise to the contrary. It was their business for better or worse determined to show the world what they could do.

I’m not denying Jerry has some narcissistic character but IMO it’s much more about ego and personal passion to play with his ball how he wants or he isn’t interested in playing.

Jerry could have done anything he wanted but he wanted to be involved in football, running and coaching a team without the Direct accountability most adhere to.
