They offered him a reworked deal and he refused it. He’s either delusional in thinking he’ll get a good offer elsewhere or he’s just ready to move on.

I can see wanting to go elsewhere. Because to me it seemed clear that RB is a big possibility in the draft…. They wanted him to take a pay cut and his snaps were gonna go down and hurt his value.

I actually will remember his last play as a Cowboy.. it summed up what this franchise did to Zeke perfectly. Let's send him out to play Centre.. and get pancaked.. to try some stupid trick play that didn't even get 10 yards.. and he did it. Just like he trotted out there with a busted knee and various other injuries because we needed yards.. he put up with putrid play calling, a round about approach to coaching.. and all with a smile and always the team first mentality.

I think it was the right decision to let him go but gee I think we wasted his enormous talent a bit.

Well, Jones decided to have someone type up something this time and send out a press release instead of making allowing the player to do it like Tony Romo publicly back in November 2016.
Wasn't that because Tony Romo was retiring?

WHY? we need to learn to let go.
Why? He's not being let go because he can't play. He's being let go because he costs too much. There is a sober assessment of every player to be had, and if any given player can be had at a right price, you put that on your list of options. It's just how it works. I don't make the rules. I just know what the rules are, and I don't pretend they don't exist.

That said, I'm already sensing from the chatter I've read that, nah, Zeke's going to get a pretty decent contract after all, and one beyond what our spreadsheet is able to afford.

Any sense that his market might be so limited that re-signing him remains an option?
Yep. He gets low offers and resigns. We still have to pay him 6 million or so I think. So maybe it’s a plan. Unless his crappy agent has a plan.

I don't see that at all, noticed there was no mention of a pay cut. Tells me both parties agreed it's time to move on. But keep an eye on the Bucs and/or Chargers.

To a 1 day deal to RETIRE AS A COWBOY!!
He won’t retire. He likely left knowing he will get paid his money and JJ will give him a new 4 million one year deal if he can’t get more. I think JJ still wants him. He protects Dak as much as a LT. What happens the first time Dak gets smeared because Pollard misses a block.

We knew they were going to ask him to take a serious pay cut. His agent set him up for some of this by having him hold out 2 years early on his deal. JJ likely said if you can’t get more he will give him 3-5 million on top of what he is getting anyways. Isn’t he still getting paid 6 or so. Or is all his guaranteed money paid. We have dead money.

That was a good statement, but you do wonder if it was written for Jerry. That was the most coherent statement I've ever read from him. lol

Bye, time to get quicker on offense!
That’s the nature of the business……always strive to get better regardless of nostalgia some fans have for players that no longer produce

out wit da old and in wit da new

Thanks for the memories #21. I will never forget the 2016 season... lightning in a bottle. When he got the football you just knew there was a chance he was going to house it. For about 5 years, Zeke was one of the best and it is a shame that his athleticism is waning. All good things must come to an end and it was time.

Another all-pro player's career wasted by the Dallas Cowboys.

That is the way it should be. Zeke was a warrior that did all he was asked to do and never complained (except for holding out, and looks like he was right to do so as the end comes quick).

Guy was a team player and clearly made the team better. It was time, and it is the sad part of the business of football. But it happens to EVERYONE at some point.

I wish him luck.
So Zeke held out with 2 years left on the current contract - please tell me you don't think he did that for the team. Zeke is NOT a team player, he's an individual who was only focused on his own gains. He is the epitome of greed. Greedy people like Zeke will never be team players.

Thats not the sign of a team player, not one bit.....

None so blind that will not see. Football is a business and Zeke treated NEGOTIATIONS that way
Clearly some here are too stupid to realize the difference between that and playing.
