Jerry Jones and coach Mike McCarthy remain open to moving forward together

Whether you like Mike or not, Jerry is doing exactly what he did with Dak and Lamb, which always leads to him overpaying.
  • Could have signed Dak and Lamb to extensions a year ago for less overall money, but he wanted to watch the leaves fall; teams sign guys before their contracts run out because the influx of cash is attractive, so they don't see free agency on the horizon yet. Both sides are usually happy. Jerry waits until after Lamb has missed all of training camp, signs him at the last minute to have him play on opening day, and of course Lamb gets a slow start and is out of sync, leading to misses on 3rd down and turnovers, plus a huge contract. He waits even longer on Dak because Dak is in camp, but the closer it gets to opening day and free agency, the more he has to pay Dak. Jerry waited on contracts of WRs and QBs who are arguably better than our guys, which only leads to higher pay.
  • Now, instead of extending Mike before the season so he isn't a lame duck coach with an antsy staff, he waits, makes them all coach it out. Now, he's waiting until the very edge of McCarthy and others becoming free agents, not needing his permission to seek better deals, so he's likely to be driving up McCarthy's demands, not only for money, years, but also for more power. Mike has already been through the worst of it, coaching and watching his contract expire....painfully for him and his staff. What he would have agreed to to avoid that uncertainty is no longer a factor. Now, he is more likely to see that there are other opportunities, other suitors, and he's more likely to hold Jerry's feet to the fire. Then if Jerry lets him walk, we all know from the past that Jerry doesn't have the stomach for interviewing ad nauseum in order to find the best coaches. He will do what he did with Mike, hire someone he feels comfortable with and be done with it.
For a big time, successful businessman, Jerry sure doesn't apply solid strategy to managing the Cowboys.

It's nothing that I didn't already expect. Actually, the only part I thought might have been different was MM might not want o return to deal with the JJ antics and always getting thrown under the bus but I guess he doesn't mind it as long as he gets paid.

JJ is reserved to the fact of valuing the ability to be in complete control regardless of the performance of the team. MM gives him that even after the debacle last year in the playoffs and utter ineptitude this year. It's more important to be in charge and have a lame coach to blame than it is to implement change and go through the work to research a new way forward.

Anyone that gave the cowboys a dime of their money last year is a fool. Literally a lame duck year just to bring him back. Absolutely hilarious

I am UK based - but a question for the American guys on here or Texas based posters please?

does Jerry not pick up on the fact the fan base want change? Hardly anyone wants McCarthy back! So why does he continue to ignore the paying customers and reward failure? In Scotland if a soccer club fan base don’t want a coach there , the owner knows about it and usually it ends with the coach not having his job!
I don't why I read this in an accent. Jerry is in his own world and he laughs at fans wishes.

Mike is probably asking how long they have to do this before Jerry is satisfied that the fans are buying that this was a rigorous process where every possibility was considered and the Joneses believe after that process that this was the best option.

The picture shows a man with absolutely no self respect. He’s begging for a contract, is a sleepover next
Job security. McCarthy knows he got five years the first time. If he goes somewhere else, they might ax him after a year if they are not satisfied with the job. I mean, imagine if the Joneses had dumped him after he went 6-10 his first season. He could have been treated like Jerod Mayo.

Awesome. First, pick next year.
Nope , Jerry will trade our next 2 first round round draft picks for a WR.
Isn't it great having a sterling GM who can outwit the rest of the NFL ?
We have such an advantage over the rest of the NFL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not fair, I tell ya!
