Pretty obvious, its called "we got lucky"

Yes, we did.

I'm still shocked we selected Manuel Johnson ahead of Kevin Ogletree in the seventh round. Even more surprising is Ogletree being available that late and then winding up going undrafted.

But that's the draft, there are head scratchers every year.

Point is that we haven't forever - hence the wasted cap money and draft picks expended on Roy Williams and a scrub like Hurd being thrown to twice to win a game.

If it wasn't for that " scrub " Hurd, the Cowboys wouldn't have been in position to tie the game to begin with.

Or did that 15 yards pass, 45+ run YAC didn't count ?

talking about not drafting receivers...

weren't the Cowboys about pick Limas Sweed if he had fallen to them last year ?

How's he doing in Pittsburgh ?

1 catch for 5 yards this season, 6 catches for 64 yards last year (career avg 9.9 yds per rec).

He's been active for 14 of 21 possible games to date.

That doesn't change the fact Kevin Williams was a terrible wide receiver.

K Dub never caught 40 passes or more than 2 touchdowns in a season.

Williams needed the Arizona Cardinals to triple cover Michael Irvin in the '95 finale where he went wild for 200 yards to finish the year with 600 yards.

Other than that aberration, he never had 400 receiving yard in a season.

Williams was a punt returner and we picked him one spot ahead of fellow Hurricane LB Michael Barrow.

We gave up on the best of the bunch, but it just shows that drafting talent is only part of the equation. We didn't think Jimmy Smith would recover and gave up on him.

He was a great player.

I wouldn't downplay what Smith did in his career or Alvin Harper with us, I just wanted to say Harper quickly flamed out after leaving Dallas because he was only good at certain things.

The main point is we took 4 WR's in 5 years when Jimmy was here, while only doing so once in the last 16 years.

AND, 3 of those 4 were far better than most of the guys taken in similar positions by Jerry over those last 16 years too, regardless of how you try to spin it.
