Preston-- Average at best.

Ogletree?

Keep an eye on that kid.

He went out and beat Nate Clements on several routes.

Ogletree can play. A lot of fast guys can run routes-- this kid seems to be a terrific route runner.

Its my opinion that Ogletree will be the number 3 receiver on the depth chart before the season is over.

I just dont see how the "fifth WR" is going to even see the field very much aside from injuries. Dont forget about all the receiving options from the TE position and out of the backfield as well.

You are forgetting recievers 3 and 4 get nicked up alot.

I think Ogletree will stick and be a quality backup WR in the league, but to predict a meteoric rise over the likes of Hurd and Crayton on the depth chart is a bit of a reach at this point.

The 'Tree is pretty smooth in his routes but I don't know if he has NFL grit yet which Crayton clearly has and Hurd looks to have developed.

Both players are bigger and much stronger than K.O.

That said, K.O. will definitely catch more than 5 passes this season- I think he could be a real sleeper on a day where one of our top three goes down w/injury.

We have three backups on oline that have/could start and be average. Free, Holland, and Preston can hold it down adequately. Name 3 ok backup oline on any team and you can say they have decent depth.

Actually, our oline depth is probably better than 2/3rds of the nfl. some people are just half-empty types

That's the way I see it.

The o-line depth is the best it's been in years.

Is it perfect? Heck no. But it's a vast improvement over what we've had recently.

And even if it isn't --do you expect Jerry to tell his woes to a reporter --especially if they are looking at someone else to sign:rolleyes:

Exactly.

I think Holland is good depth at guard. And once Preston knows the line calls, I think he'll suffice asa backup center. McQ as we know isn't acceptable, but Free has been OK for the most part. So is the depth on the o-line better than last year at this point?

The answer is a resounding yes.

Is it perfect depth? No. I wish the tackle position was a little more solid, but it's better than it has been in several years.

I'm not even close to ok with our depth, but I have to agree with your assessment.

It's such a shame that those all of those OL we picked with high picks busted (Al Johnson, Peterman, Rogers). If one of those guys came through and Seattle doesn't beat us to the punch for Unger, we would be in good shape.
Thank God for free agency (never thought I'd say that as a Cowboys fan). It landed us Bigg and even Kosier. Columbo was a great risk to take that has really panned out for us. Just wish we had a couple of talented, young guys breathing down Kosier and Adams' necks.

Says with the new stadium he is most proud of the entrances and the video board. Team-wise he is glad we were able to create good depth along the o-line and figure out the wide receiver situation after losing Terrell Owens.

Yeah right.

Just what I would expect Jerry to say.

Apparently not. Good job leaving Phil Loadholt on the board...he's been starting for Minnesota since the word go.
Loadhold will be the guy that finally ends Farve's career.

So how did we "create" good depth on the OL?

Bring back the same garbage players we had last year and then convince ourselves that they are actually better than we thought now?

To think, some view this man as a competent General Manager.

I remember being shouted down when I disagreed with some folks who said Hudson Houck was going to solve the problems of the Offensive Line.

Personally, I think Jerry Jones has done a fairly decent job and has allowed Wade Phillips to field a very competitive team.

The Baltimore and Philadelphia debacle had nothing to with Jerry Jones and everything to do with Wade Phillips lack of ability to hold people accountable and motivate them.

I think people miss that whether we have great ol depth or not you never want to say our ol depth sucks if you are the gm.

Jerry has always been a gm who talked out both sides of his mouth, it would be silly to believe the parts you find hard to believe just for the sake of attacking him.

He is going to be very interesting to watch this year.

He keeps growing at a rapid pace. It is pretty unbelievable so far.

I still find it amusing that anyone on a message board can evaluate backup offensive lineman in preseason by simply reacting to what they see on TV.

Sure, you can note the obvious when a guy gets completely manhandled. But other than that, what do you use as a judge of talent?

Do you know what the proper footwork is? Do you know the specific blocking techniques that are being taught? Do you know each players assignment on any given play? Or do you just listen to the broadcasters and jump on the wagon?

Do you realize it typically takes three years for an offensive lineman to learn his trade in the NFL?

Do you realize how important cohesiveness is to the line? These backup players are playing next to different people almost every game in preseason. And do you think it's possible that the coaches put these players in certain one on one situations to see what they can do?

McQuistan to me looks like a guy with some very good athletic ability. Coaches have stated in the past that he is the most athletic o lineman we have. He hustles and gives good effort. To me, I think the mental part of the game is hurting him now. The little things, understanding situations, fundamental techniques. I don't think he is as bad as people make him out to be.

Free looks solid. Maybe a little on the weak side yet, but he will be a player for us.

Holland seems to be much more familiar with the offense. I still think he is only average as a pass blocker because of his limited athletic ability, but he has a good feel for the game. Long term, I still question his want to when it comes to his weight.

Preston didn't look out of place in the only game he played with a limited training camp under his belt. Looked like he move around well. He looks as though he has some pop in his hands.

Proctor, to me, is just not athletic enough. He is horrible in space and doesn't anchor all the time. That's why he is only a center.

Obviously the coaches see something in these guys that many here don't.

How dare you come in here and try to talk sense.

This team has **** for depth.

Many arm-chair experts have said so. :D

Not to get too off topic, but did you read the article about BYU, the team you played for, could possibly push for the National Championship?

Count me in among those people. I'm very excited about him and would hope he gets 5 catches in Sept.

The BCS is a joke. I love it when teams like Boise State, BYU, Utah, and other "lesser conference schools" throw that system into a mess.

We need a playoff to determine a true Champion. It is way past excuse time.
