Jerry Jones: Cowboys will start scheduling free agent visits soon

I'm sure Dallas will dabble a little in free agency but it might not even be for a starter, just quality depth.

hell no too Darren sharper
Why not. The dude is till playing at a higher level than what we have seen here in a while. if we could get him at a decent price I think he would be great for this team.

sweetness.... i hope they atleast consider some of the safteys out there. You never know what a change of system could do for a player.

Sounds like we might be giving an injured player time to heal up so he can pass a physical.

Atogwe? Sharper?

I hope you are right. I assumed he meant the schedule the prospects would have made with other teams.

I would like to have Darren Sharper in Dallas.

It won't happen, but I'd like it.

How much gas does Sharper really have left in the tank?

That's exactly how I read into his comments as well. Sounds like he's waiting for the demands of FAs who think they're going to make a truckload of money in a uncapped year to come back to earth and realize that isn't going to happen. Once they realize that thier options are limited this year then they'll have no choice but to lower thier demands. Jerry is going to let the market come to him and get some bargains instead of setting the market and driving up the price on himself. Smart move.

Players coming off of two ACL tears are signing multi year deals. Nate Burleson is getting $25 million. If you can't make some money in this market, you really suck.

Sharper as a Cowboy is the 2nd worst case scenario IMO. Ken Hamlin staying as status quo Free Safety takes the bottom billing.

I'm friends with a big time Saints fan and spend Mardi Gras in NO, and although they love him out there (they love the whole team right now, even Reggie) several times it was mentioned to me that on Sharper got burned plenty of times and wasn't a great tacklers even though he laid some big hits.

Despite all that, though, they do want to keep him but none of the fans want to break the bank on him, especially given his age.

both sharper and woodson are just jumping everything they see right now because they know they need to be playmakers and now that their skills are declining they have to take chances. they both got burnt alot last year but their risk taking paid off enough for both to overlook it but it may not next year.

I believe what this refers to is, many players will be released after the draft once their team is able to draft the players they want to replace them.

Scenario
I.E. if we drafted a safety then released Ken Hamlin, if someone wanted Hamlin rather than having traded for him, or signing a different safety, they could have just waited out til he was released.

Norm said on his show yesterday that the Commanders might Cut Santana Moss and that the Cowboys should be interested, maybe that's something like Jerry was talking about, see who gets cut.

I think we should get Sharper IF we don't get a young prospect in the draft and see if we can sign Sharper to a 1 or 2 year deal.

Cutting Hamlin would help this team out a lot financially down the road.

any idea why the Commanders would cut S Moss? There other receivers aren't esp proven. Unless they are going with a youth movement at that position.

Or maybe his salary has a huge jump or something . . . .

Well then we aren't scheduling visits "soon". We won't be scheduling visits for another 6 weeks.

I think we're after Atogwe or Sharper. We're just waiting for them to heal up from their injuries.

According to Beatwriter David Moore's chat....

On Oshiomogho Atogwe replacing Ken Hamlin:

Oshiomogho Atogwe -- spell that fast three times -- is on the Cowboys' radar screen. He's shown an ability to make plays, which this team needs in the secondary. I wouldn't be surprised if he comes in for a visit, but at this stage, nothing is scheduled.

Because there was talk of Antonio Bryant visiting there, and something about Moss might not be a good fit in Shanny's offense.

Fair enough. But i wouldn't want to break the bank either. I just think he would be a good pickup at the right price.

I have heard that question before. From GB fans, years ago. Then from Minny fans.

I would guess he has a lot of "mental" gas left in his tank (brain).

Dallas has done it before with guys like Ray Donaldson, Jackie Smith (despite what he is remembered for), Bernie Kosar, Herb Adderley, Preston Pearson...
