Thanks for posting. Interesting David Lee tidbit. Wonder if they bumped heads because Cassell felt he won the QB battle over Taylor.

i still think its a good move, and it eitehr proves the Weeden hates wrong or it verifies what we think, Either way we have insurance and a vet thats won a SB behind him and for other reason Moore on the roster YEAH.

Lee had no endorsements for the 33-year-old.
Until you know what Lee's motivation for making that comment it's a pretty meaningless statement.

Side note - this was a great move for the Cowboys. Cassel brings a lot of experience to the position and should Weeden get hurt I'll take that over a PS or rookie player.

Jones talks about the reasoning behind the signing. (if it wasn't obvious)

My sources tell me....

Jerry signed Matt because he wanted Weeden to teach him to be a more "gifted passer".

Can you teach "gifted" passing?

That's a pretty unusual comment about someone that has played for him. Seems to me like they probably had some heated differences that came to an unsatisfactory ending for both parties. I'll take it with a "grain of salt." Tyrod Taylor appears to be a pretty doggone fine QB thus far, so I'd say there's no shame in losing out to him.

This is completely different from direct quotes from David Lee about Cassel, raving about him in the meeting room. I posted them in one of the threads. Will try to find it.

Good thought -- I'd be interested in seeing that. It really sounds like Lee has a bone to pick, though.

Not a fan of the trade, really. If you're going to carry 2 QBs then your backup should be someone that you are comfortable with starting.

It's almost like everyone assumed that if Romo went out it would either be for a week or two, or it would be for the rest of the season. While everyone had reservations about Weeden, nobody wanted to be the guy to say anything. Now that we're here and the injury is 8 weeks, it's almost like everyone all of a sudden stood up and said, "ya know, I'm not quite sold on Weeden and maybe we should look for another vet just in case".

Not to say that I dislike Cassel or anything, but just seems like at some point along the way the team didn't appropriately assess the backup QB position.

Yeah but the problem is the #2 is now the #1 and they wanted some one with experience to come in and back up Weeden. I think Kellen Moore is viewed as developmental not ready to take on the role. Cassel really comes in cheap and has experience including starting. I knew Dallas had to get someone in here, a 5th rd pick in 2017 at a 1.7 mill contract for 1 year is very doable

Here's what David Lee said about Matt Cassel less than three weeks ago --

"To me, he is really the glue in that quarterback room. I've seen him when things get difficult just sit those guys down and go through it with them. I've seen him share his notes, Xerox his notes, and say, 'This is how I categorized this.' I mean, he's ... I've never been around one that good. Chad Pennington was really good with the other quarterbacks. But this guy is really, really good."

You don't get the reason for picking up Cassel. They got him to be our veteran backup to Cassel. What happens if Cassel gets hurt? Start a QB off our practice squad? That's why Cassel was brought in. If Weeden stinks up the joint, Cassel might even replace him, but he was brought in to be the backup.

You sound like it's a knock on Weeden to give him a viable back up. I see nothing wrong with the trade and moving forward to next season we will continue to have a viable back up for Romo, Weeden will be gone.

I think we all know they didn't. That's why they have Weeden and nobody else. At least they're trying to fix that situation. Better to do it now than 2 weeks from now. Maybe Weeden will surprise everybody. I hope he does.

http://espn.go.com/blog/buffalo-bil...ance-on-matt-cassel-trade-ej-manuel-promotion

The Bills' confusing stance on Cassel didn't end there. The trade of Cassel also leaves the Bills without a veteran leader whom quarterbacks coach David Lee praised earlier this month.

"To me, he is really the glue in that quarterback room," Lee said Sept. 8. "I've seen him when things get difficult just sit those guys down and go through it with them. I've seen him share his notes, Xerox his notes, and say, 'This is how I categorized this.' I mean, he's ... I've never been around one that good. Sounds like this Mark Lane fellow needs to do a little fact checking.
