Why would Cooper Rush sign an extension to be a backup? He has shown the QB needy teams that he can start in this league. Rush will be looking for a starter's job next offseason. If I were Jones, if it's allowed. I would wrap up Cooper Rush now or the Cowboys are going to lose him in the offseason. Being he signed a contract for a 1 year deal in the offseason, it might not be allowed by league rules.

Wrong. We need to draft a new QB. Forget Rush. We could get a Herbert or a Mahomes.
If you are serious this is the craziest post I have ever read on here.I actually have a different idea. Perhaps after the season, a trade might be in order. Teams need QBs. We have two of them, and we might be in the market to draft one as well. So, if I were Jerry, I might consider dangling Rush out there (and don't do what we did with Amari) and seeing who bites. I could see mid-tier drafting teams like the Vikings, Titans, Dolphins, Colts (always QB hungry), or Seattle wanting him. If we play our cards right, we can get several high picks, including possibly an extra first round pick or two with the commodity QBs are. Then, I'd try to trade up and take a QB to develop while Dak starts next season as the heir apparent until the next season. Then, I'd use the next pick to get a LG so that we can reinforce Tyler Smith at LT.
