I dont think a good head coach wants to come into this organization with such an interfering owner.

I only hope that if Jerry, indeed, extends Dak, it won't be a deal that affords him far more than his contributions, which are meager.

Dak Prescott is a nice guy -- one of high moral character but a QB with very limited skills who might best be suited to be a backup.
So, a paycut?

Some people were not prepared for Jerry Jones taking this position. Guy has been around nearly 30 years and still catching some folks off-guard.

New Era, Beats, Campbell's Soup, Pepsi and Adidas are already feeling buyer's remorse for signing Dak to endorsement deals.

PLEASE, for the love of God, don't let the Cowboys be added to that list. Let him run through his rookie deal and show him the door.

The same guy daft aikman and got Romo to choose dallas over Denver.

Yea, no.
http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/st...mo-dallas-cowboys-became-starting-quarterback

David Lee, Cowboys assistant coach, 2003-06: "Sean and I both evaluated him, and we put him in the fifth round to draft. I remember my report said it was like he had eight sets of eyes in his head, and he never saw the rush. I hated his release point; it was clearly side-armed."

Stephen Jones: "[Payton] was on the table to draft him. Sean kept going over to Jerry saying, 'We gotta draft this guy. He's a good player.'"

Sean Payton: "I'll tell you this, once the draft ended, there were a handful of teams all competing for his services, and, to his credit, I think Tony was wise about looking at the situation and the opportunity. I know he had more money to go out and play at Denver with [Mike] Shanahan, but he felt like he was going to be joining a new staff and a new head coach."

Mike Shanahan, Broncos head coach, 1995-2008: "When you offer a free agent $20,000, it means you're pretty interested because you just don't throw that kind of money around to free agents. They offered him $10,000, but they had a history of keeping three quarterbacks and we had a history of keeping two, and I think that's why he chose the Cowboys."

Stephen Jones, Cowboys vice president, 1989-present: "Bill [Parcells] liked him a lot. Of course, Sean loved him. If you really want to know who found Tony, it was Sean."

Sean was also from Eastern Illinois and was pushing hard for Romo.

You realize taking the #1 QB with the number 1 draft pick isn't saying that much? Too bad Stephen stopped Jerry from drafting studs like Manziel or Lynch in the first, right?

How hard was it to draft Aikman? He was the #1 pick in the draft. Landry was going to draft him anyway. Romo was an UDFA. We had Parcells and Payton here. Who do we have like that now?

It clearly laid out that Sean Payton was the main guy who brought Romo here. Even Stephen Jones said Sean played a large part.
Did Jim Irsay play a big part in drafting/scouting Luck, or was he the clear cut best QB prospect in the 2012 draft? No other QB went in round 1 in 1989. Dallas Cowboys needed a QB.

Not saying Jerry deserves zero credit, but it's not like he was spearheading the effort to sign Romo.

In the 2001 NFL Draft, the Dallas Cowboys didn't have a first-round pick because of the trade that sent two first round choices to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for wide receiver Joey Galloway. Looking for a replacement to the recently retired Troy Aikman, Carter was selected by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round (53rd overall). At the time, it was a selection that was criticized by the media as a reach and it was later reported that owner/general manager Jerry Jones influenced the organization into making it.
Wikipedia, so a grain of salt.

Nothing could have prepared Carter for what awaited him in Dallas
in 2001. Troy Aikman had retired that April, and Jones went
searching for a successor in the draft. The owner was ridiculed
after he traded up and picked Carter in the second round (No. 53
overall), because many scouts had projected him to be a mid-round
choice at best.
With a plan not to rush Carter into the lineup,
the Cowboys signed journeyman Tony Banks. Then late in training
camp they cut the disappointing Banks and handed the job to the
rookie. Carter went 3-5 as a starter, but he missed eight games
with injuries to his passing thumb and left hamstring.

Jones had seen enough, however, so in early 2002 he signed Chad
Hutchinson, a former Stanford quarterback who had failed as a St.
Louis Cardinals pitching prospect. Because Jones had to outbid
other teams, he gave Hutchinson, who hadn't played football since
1997,
a larger signing bonus ($3.1 million) than he had given
Carter ($1.5 million). That made Carter wonder about his job
security. Those concerns intensified when Bruce Coslet, the
offensive coordinator at the time, evenly split practice reps
between the two passers in camp and started Hutchinson in a
preseason game.

On Thursday, Cowboy owner Jerry Jones said he was intrigued by Henson, who worked out for Dallas on March 1. And on Friday, Jones worked out the deal, whose final four years are voidable.

Henson will get a guaranteed $3.5 million, the most ever for a sixth-round pick. He'll earn the minimum rookie salary of $228,000 this season, but with attainable incentives he can easily increase his earnings over the length of the deal.

Problem with Jones was that he had Larry Lacewell on the team for far too long. Same dude who had zero clue who Romo was in 2003 pre-draft.

But yes, Jerry Jones had a love affair with Quarterbacks who were ex-baseball players in the early 2000's. You think Dave Campo had a voice in player acquisition? The only voice he had was what ice cream shop he could take the players to.

Jerry gave up some power when he brought Parcells in. Parcells didn't have absolute say on everything, but it wasn't just Jerry in the big boy seat.

yeah and Jimmy had to be saved from himself because he went in the supplemental draft and picked Walsh, which ended up costing Dallas 1 overall. Jimmy didnt want Aikman.

:laugh:Keep believing that. He just wanted options. Not like this current staff that hands everything to players. Love our current backups. That's why we have no choice but to stick with Dak.
