Jerry Jones on Dak Prescott's Contract: Cowboys Expect QB 'to Be with Us a Long Time'

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones remains confident about quarterback Dak Prescott's long-term future with the team.

Jones said Tuesday on Shan & RJ on Audacy's 105.3 The Fan (via Jon Machota of The Athletic) the Cowboys "expect Dak to be with us a long time."

Prescott is due to be a free agent in 2025. A new contract would not only keep him in Dallas beyond that but also likely lower his $59.5 million salary cap hit for 2024.

I keep telling some people they do not understand Jerry Jones. The man has literally been throwing this stuff back in people's faces for over 30 years but no. "Oh this time it will be different!!!111!!"

Dak is the QB for now, that could change down the road. But this isn't a situation in which we will see Trey Lance immediately become the starting QB of the Cowboys or at least not as immediate as some believe he would become the starting QB, when this trade to the Cowboys was announced.

Jethro gave them the juiciest ammo they could have hoped for with Lance acquisition. But the Prescott extension is going to squash their talking points.
...and continue to squash hopes of a Super Bowl in Dallas.

One thing I’ve found over the last 3 decades plus is our foolish idiotic narcissistic owner loves spewing his intentions publicly .

And while he’s been known to change directions or move with public perception he’s not known as a liar or intentionally misleading the public.

As much as I despise Jethro this appears to be his intentions regardless what side of the fence fans are on.

If Dak declined the offer which Cousins and Wilson took, that means Dak was the backup to 1 of the 4 (2 voted for both conferences), which means Dak was the 2nd choice to 1 of the 2 originally chosen to represent the NFC.
...and if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle. You don't know if Wilson or Cousin was asked before Dak.

It is what it is. Much like those who blamed Garrett or Romo. There’s a much deeper root. Who’s really had much hope the last couple decades +? There's been one constant throughout.

Believe what you will but not much is changing . All we can do is hope it’s enough. And if fans want to believe . I dont have a problem with it.

Shoot we have billions of people on this planet who have their faith all wrong. I suppose a few million Cowboys can have a false belief as well. I can still enjoy watching the games and see what happens. Amazingly with this foolish idiotic owner we even have a playoff caliber team.

Dak was never not going to get the extension. It doesn’t matter if he throws 20 interceptions this year.
That is False!! This is another false narrative concocted in this toxic environment created by Dak Haters.

Jerry Jones has cut Better Players and Jerry WILL cut Prescott one day!!

If Dak Prescott doesn't deliver and he regresess, they can indeed move on, cut Dakota and start the rebuilding process.

If Dak gets an extension before Game 1 then it's earned based on performance and market value... before the next guy is up

The team is not built to develop a new QB, you’re built to make the playoffs right now. Jerry has said it over and over: winning the Super Bowl is not his barometer. Making the playoffs to compete for SBs is. Dak is in that Kirk Cousins/Jared Goff range where if you give him a good team he’s never not going to win 9+ games. That is playoff caliber, he’s exactly what Jerry is looking for.
Cowboys Organization is built to withstand Rebuilding. $2B in value more than next Franchise. Year around events...the Cowboys make $$ revenue 365 days of the year unlike some other teams.

Plus Jerry has unequivocally stated he wants to win another Superbowl...some fans just don't agree with Jerry's methods.
It is very likely he is still Dallas’ QB approaching 2030. It took Oakland/LV 8 years to get over Derek Carr’s 2015 season. That is the current NFL. What happened to Goff in LA is not a realistic expectation of Jerry.
The only way Dakota Prescott is QB for Cowboys in 2030, is if Cowboys win a Superbowl in the next 2 Seasons and Prescott started.

The Dak Haters have created such Hateful environment....Real Cowboy fans forgot our history
Whether you’re a Dak lover or Dak Hater, it doesn’t matter. This isn’t a Dak positive or Dak negative post. It’s a reality post: he was getting this extension with or without Lance, with or without the picks, with or without Kellen Moore.
Prescott's extension is dependent on his performance against market value....Kellen Moore, Cooper Rush and Trey Lance are TV sound bite
Financially for Dallas it doesn’t make sense not to do it, on-the-field it doesn’t make sense not to do it, and for Jerry’s fan outreach and PR it doesn’t make sense not to do it. Some of you are getting too bottled up in the hot take media.
:hammer::hammer::hammer:

Dak will be a long term Cowboy because it’s the most rational choice at this juncture.
At the moment agreed....but if Dakota Prescott has bad year....all bets are off.

Dak Haters give us false narratives

Great Post !!

Again, sarcasm but no worries...and my condolences for the passing of your wife. Psalm 34:18

Two spots opened up and Cousins and Wilson accepted....article didn't claim Dak was asked before the two of them but I know reading English is a problem for you as you inject your agenda.
Wow, you are soooo wrong. I'm worried for you.

It’s just a matter of how much and how long.

I’m thinking a 2 year extension , maybe 3 for about 50 mil a year. With huge signing bonus and minimal cap hits like his current contract. If it’s 2/years probably fully guaranteed. If it’s longer probably options .

This will allow us to sign key talent like Parsons and Lamb.

The cold hard reality of Romo being replaced for good and forced into retirement affected them negatively to the point of no return.
I think I know the problem!!

It's the generation that never lived through the 90s.. Romo was the greatest Cowboys ambassador and best QB since....then came Prescott.

I think the Cowboy fans whom lived and enjoy the 90s Era were hurt when Romo left but we learned how to move on.... Romo's generation doesn't know how to.....YET!!!

Jerry has a rich and illustrious history of saying stuff like this and then getting rid of guys. It's like the kiss of death.
