Regardless of the season's outcome, it's extremely unlikely that Wade Phillips will accept a demotion to defensive coordinator for two reasons. One, such a move rarely happens in football. Two, there isn't any overwhelming motivation such as income, career advancement, etc., to push him into making that choice.

I agree that he probably wouldn't do it on principle - but why not for $?

What about mike nolan, he took the defensive job as coordinator with the broncos.

Again, i understand what your saying about wade not resigning with the cowboys as defensive coordinator, but you know jerry, he generally gets what he wants and money always talks.
cowboyjoe, Mike Nolan when from head coach of the San Francisco 49ers to the defensive coordinator for the Denver Broncos. It's not the same thing and makes an even stronger argument that Phillips would not accept a demotion in Dallas.

Thats what I am saying, jerry will tell wade look, i stood by you and let you coach another year when everyone was calling for me to fire you. Now at least coach for me one year with the money i am going to give you for one year and lets see what happens.

Then, when jerry gives wade that 3 million or so again for just being a defensive coordinator, i think in time wade will accept it after he sees no owner will hire him as a head coach again.

Understand what your saying dallas east, but what if jerry throws 3.5 millon or so at wade? Money talks you know. And if no owner will hire him as a head coach next year, then it could. I realize its a strong possibility he wont, but you never know with jerry. Jerry generally gets what he wants.

I'm not privy to his contract details, but I believe that Jerry Jones didn't sign Phillips to a Chan Gailey contract either. It's an assumption, but I doubt that he's hurting for money. Additionally, Phillips hasn't exhibited greedy tendencies throughout his career. In short, money wouldn't be a motivation for him, especially since he could entertain offers from other teams with a very good salary incentive.

He wanted Parcells to stick around.

I've seen this wish batted around before. Anything in life is possible, but this is one wish where the odds greatly outweigh it.

Not from what I heard dallas east, jerry was hurting for money alittle. Remember jerry and stephen took out about a 250 million note from a bank and they had to pay on that monthly. I heard somewhere either from espn, or some media that jerry wants to recoup all of his money first that he spent on the stadium, before he goes hiring new head coaches etc, and we might be stuck with the coaches we have now for 2 to 3 years.

Sure, Jerry isnt hurting like some people because he prepared, jerry said he sold some assests, land etc to get ready for the stadium.

But he still owes on that bank note, and from what i heard, jerry has a payroll of like 1 millon at the stadium when it was being built, etc. Not sure what the payroll is now, and im just talking about the builders for the stadium, the stadium staff, etc, the mall stuff etc.

So, thats alot of money to have to shell out, then jerry had the big contract of ware, etc.

I wasn't referring to Jerry Jones' alleged financial difficulties, cowboyjoe. I was referring to the contract with Wade Phillips signed to become the Cowboys' head coach.

Wade has too much pride to come back here as DC under RJ.
