I was going to post this because there was a lot of interesting things about this interview.

1. Is there a rift with Mike? Normally they speak as one voice on stuff like this? This seems very divided.
2. Also Dak not consulted? I know it doesn't matter to Dak, he will handle this fine bit why not that heads up?

3. The SF fans comments. To see of them giving kudos to Jerry and how Trey is such a good kid who finally has someone in his corner. Didn't expect those comments.

4. The open comments about possibly having drafted Hurts if he was there. Risky comments...
He doesn’t mention Hurts by name so that likely gets him off the hook there.

What I find to be a positive is the fact that unlike Paxton Lynch and Connor Cook, the Cowboys clearly identified a very good quarterback and person in Hurts and would have drafted him had Philadelphia not.

You all don’t think Jerrah traded for Lance for a reason? Dak rejected the Cowboys extension offer. Jerry reacted…….

I believe this video and several others, including two I have posted, are an insight into how Jones has overseein drafting for the quarterback position--even during the past decade. Namely, a prospect is given a draft grade on their board and they follow their board exclusively.

None of this is surprising but it does underscore how adamant they keep to the board pretty much every year. Quarterback prospects who fell to them according to their grade were only strongly considered. Naturally, the availability would occur more often in mid-to-late rounds than on day one or even day two, since other teams were situated better on the board to get a quarterback or they aggressively moved up or down the board and got their man.

Meanwhile, Dallas stood pat many times, perhaps putting out modest trade offers to other teams to move or down a round but not gambling any huge investment. This should help those fans, who were constantly aggravated by Jones not going after their pet cat quarterbacks.
“The problem is, we put third- and fourth-round grades on guys and they’re all gone by halfway through the second round,” Stephen Jones said. “This was a great opportunity, we think, value-wise, to get a guy who has a bright future. At the end of the day, we’re really trusting exactly what we thought of him coming out.”

Prescott is in the third year of a $160 million, four-year contract, while Lance has two years remaining on his rookie contract. The Cowboys hold the fifth-year option, but the cost makes it unlikely the club would use it, particularly with Jerry Jones saying, “I don’t want to plan on, count on or wish for help from him this year.”

Jerruh you could have advertised that trade on a billboard on every interstate in the country, and done a TicTock in ur birthday suit blabbing about the trade.

You offered them a 4th rd pick for garbage. No team in the league would have touched that except you.

Stop acting like you are slick and fooled everyone.

This article's quotes and interpretations fairly coincide with the comments made by both Jerry (before the game) and Stephen Jones (during the game) yesterday, which I recorded, uploaded and posted on the forum last night:

The article, videos and my earlier post (based upon their comments in the videos) provide good insight into how the position has been addressed via the draft this year and in the past by Jones & Company.

Don't you get the vibe that Jerry went rogue and made this trade decision on his own? I'm not even sure Stephen was all in on it.
I don't know. Stephen is just a parrot though...about this player on the come.

Guy makes me cringe. I'm a fan of Jerral Wayne...but I don't care for Jr.

Jerry was asked if he gave Dak a heads up about Lance coming in.

"No."

"We didn't tell anybody until after we did it."

I don't mind it that "we" made the decision did not include McCarthy, but I'd like to know if "we" also did not include McClay.... the former doesn't raise my eyebrow, but the latter definitely does, if confirmed. Sounds like they were scared Lynch would decide to make it more of an auction if they let him off the phone. Still, there's two Joneses... one of them could have kept Lynch on the line while the other just let McClay know, even if just out of courtesy and respect for the man's role and the man's earned regard in that role.

But, okay, whatever. This isn't nearly the big deal that's caused some to speak of it as-if tempted to slit their wrists.

I doubt it. The Green Bay front office were basically telling Aaron Rodgers that Jordan Love was his replacement from the time they drafted Love. Rodgers was in the same situation as his predecessor, Brett Favre. Both quarterbacks knew their clocks were ticking because their management kept reminding them and they did not like it.

Publicly, Jerry Jones has repeatedly stated Trey Lance was acquired as a developmental quarterback. Lance was highly rated by the 49ers and the Cowboys coming out of college. Jones loved Lance's potential like San Francisco.

The difference between the 49ers approach and possibly Jones' is that San Francisco planned on starting Lance as soon as he was brought up to speed in their opinion and they did. Lance had been drafted as a 100% replacement for Jimmy Garappolo. On the other hand, Jones wants Lance to become a fully realized replacement for Dak Prescott. That will take time.

Meanwhile, Prescott retains Jones' 100% support. I think anyone hedging their expectations of Lance siphoning away that support and seeing Jones switch gears are in for a longer wait than desired. Prescott should know that as well. Of course, his confidence might get shaken as well if HE sustained a significant injury allowing a fully capable Lance to step in and encourage Jones to swap loyalties prematurely. Prescott has experienced that scenario first-hand but from the perspective of Lance's. That particular scenario might cause Prescott to pout for certain.
