Jerry Jones saying that without Miles Austin, T.O. would still be a Cowboy?

DISCLAIMOR: This thread is about MIles Austin as a possible replacement for T.O.'s production now that he is gone. this is not meant to be a T.O. thread, or a Jerry-Jones-Hate thread. I'm posting it to read your reactions about Miles's Austin's readiness to fill the void, especially since the conventional response has been to draft a WR - when we might otherwise have the replacement on the roster already.

Here's a FWST quote from Jerry Jones saying that without Miles Austin, T.O. would likely still be a Cowboy. Wow! I've heard reasons for cutting T.O. like "Romo-Friendly", "Roy Williams as the #1", and even "Younger receivers contributing", but this is the first time Jones has taken one specific WR - Miles Austin - and compared what he can bring the Cowboys that is similar to T.O. - that being speed and ability.

Wow! Now that's pretty high praise for Austin. I know the Cowboys are pretty enamoured with him, but for the first time, this really indicates just how much - which is much much more than I originally thought they were.

Sorry Dude, but fans can't have it both ways. Most concerms fans and the media have raised after T.O.'s release is how to replace his production. Here we finally have a quote from the G.M. SPECIFICALLY REFERRING TO MILES AUSTIN as a possibility for replacing that production in 2009 and beyond, and somehow this is a T.O. thread?

How about you just don't participate in the thread if you don't liker it. I for one am curious to hear fans' opinions of MILES AUSTIN as a possible replacement to T.O.'s production.

First of all HOW DARE YOU bring up another mention of T.O.?

It is understood that his name would never be mentioned agin . . .

And without Austin, it would make sense -- in a strategic way -- that Jerra would probably have kept T.O.

I agree the reasons may be lame the fact Dallas is eating million with the release of Owens tells me they no longer wanted to deal or put up with him. Actions speak allot louder than words. Jerry like most in the NFL are not going to rip a player publicly but Jerry would be better off not commenting at all about it and just move forward.

If he wants to talk highly of Austin then great heck even Gil Brandt thinks Austin is going to be a very good WR in this league

TO doesn't deserve to get mentioned in the light that he is mentioned in. Here are some FACTS to keep in mind. TO was the 10th most targeted WR in the league last year, but his 69 catches were tied for 28th in the league.

Will Miles Austin put up numbers like TO did last year, no. But he may well not get half as many balls thrown his way with Dallas also having to get balls to Witten, Bennett, Roy Williams, Felix Jones and Crayton. To go along with an offense that is more balanced than last years.

Jerry has a very good point, as a possession WR, TO was NOT very good last year, infact he was average at best. But with Roy Williams being injured and not on the same page as Romo, he was still the best possession WR we had last year. The one thing that TO is still very good at, is being a downfield threat, as he is still plenty fast. We don't need TO as a possession WR, as we should have a healthy Roy Williams to fill that roll, so that left the deep threat part. And as for a deep threat, Miles Austin certainly has the ability to be every bit as good if not a better deep threat as TO.

I sure hope he's everything he's being built up to be! Seems like they're putting alot of pressure on Miles by expecting Owens-like production out of him. Shoot, I'd be satisfied if we get Crayton-like production outta him...

If Jerry really did release TO because he believes that Austin will step up and provide us with all the deep threat, big play, type of things that TO did then I'm afraid he's putting a little too much on young Austin's shoulders.

The dude has yet to stay healthy for a whole year and has never even caught 20 balls in one season. To think he's suddenly going to come in and give up 40-50 catches with some serious deep threat attacks is a little up there. I'll be thrilled if he stays healthy and provides us with 30 grabs this year to go along with what I expect Williams, Witten, Crayton and Jones to get.
