Jerry Jones says Romo will play in Week 16

I once met Jerry Jones. He is a genuine person. Looks you in the eye and what not.

He comes off bad on TV sometimes but the man I met and hung out with was a good guy. He loves his Cowboys and he loves Cowboy fans. Don't judge someone until ya meet them is my point I guess. Oh and I think he's underrated as a GM if anything.

Oh my gosh. That is over exaggeration pushed to ridiculous. I am a Historian and I do not ever cover up History.

He's a good business man. Not a good general manager. And a good owner, would put a good general manager in place to suceed - therefore he's not a good owner. Just a good business man, please let's not get those two things confused.
I don't care enough about this to comment.

It's a shame you can't be objective about this stuff.
I feel I am objective because I see both sides and compare the situation here to History, to every other team, and I apply that across the board.

Nah you just take yourself entirely too seriously.

No one can ever get into a spirited debate with you, it turns into a pissing contest - then, right on schedule, you play the condescending rhetoric card and pretend like you're too holier than thou to even bother responding.

Blah, blah, blah.

Whatever. You said I don't condemn Jones and I provided 2 examples of things I absolutely condemn him for vehemently and you want to change the parameters and make it about me.

No. It isn't about me. I simply disagree with you and your 23 years of experience and frustration. Damn me to hell.

I was talking about football operations, Jerry the GM. Not Jerry the owner. You knew that.

And no, I didn't change any parameters, I've watched you go through the same song and dance every single time someone disagrees with you.

And like I said before we got into this, I'll agree to disagree. You're not going to piss on my leg and tell me its rain. Just like you're not going to let me watch 15 straight years of futility and tell me that it's everyone's fault but Jerrys.

No, I'm not, because I have never once said this, maintained it, or even thought it.

You guys realize you are fans of the same team... right? Hug it out fellers.

AC and I get along fine most of the time. He just thinks he can assign me an opinion and I won't stand for that.

Hos knows I got nothing but respect for him.

I don't always argue with him, but when I do - I prefer to make it entertaining.

I agree with 95% of the things he says in relation to the game of football, I just think he's been rubbing elbows and exchanging info with too many guys 'in the know' - so he's starting to heavily buy into their brand of kool aid as well.

And I also have been victim to 15 years of frustration, haven't been able to enjoy dynasties and a lineage of success like his generation has. So I may be a tad more cynical.

Well, I don't have the connections that Hostile has, but the one point he's making that I tend to agree with is that fans are generally myopic about their team. Therefore they...we...don't always see that other teams owners, GMs, and players tend to do the same things our team does.

Basically, the only thing unusual about Jerry speaking on players, playing time, etc is the frequency with which he does it. However, he's not the only outspoken GM in the league and he's not the only outspoken owner in the league.

All that said, I don't think Jerry has much say as to who gets on the field or how much they play, regardless of the coach.

Just my two nickels.

Good post, I agree mostly.

But even if he doesn't have much input on game days, he hires the guys that do. And everyone wants to blame Wade for our collapse, but someone had to put him in charge.

Well in that case, thanks for the entertainment. Best Apollo vs. fight since Rocky!

Of course, and ultimately the buck does stop with Jerry.

However, I go back to when Jerry was going through the hiring cycle. He interviewed almost 20 people (random number) for the HC spot. Of those 20 people, the Wade hire made sense at the time, because of his expertise with the 3-4.

Who didn't he hire of all the interviewees that we, as fans, can legitimately say he screwed up? Off the top of my head, here's who he interviewed:

Jason Garrett
Todd Bowles
Tony Sparano
Ron Rivera
Norv Turner
Jim Caldwell
Mike Singletary

I think he exhausted every hiring avenue considering Parcells left so late in the process. Wade won alot of games for this organization. I don't fully understand what happened this year, tho we can all speculate. That said, it was pretty clear the players no longer responded to his coaching.

And another damn good post.

I agree that Parcells hung them out to dry, and hiring Wade made the most sense - especially since they've invested so much time, energy, and picks into that side of the football.

With Wade they went 13-3 and won a playoff game for the first time in years. If you would've told me back in 2006 that in 3 years Wade would've won the division twice, won a playoff game, and been 33-15 I would've taken it.

But like you said, something happened this year, I'm sure we'll speculate about it for years. But Wade lost the team, and I feel like waiting till your 1-7 to do something about it - had more to do with Jerry's ego and him hoping it would magically turn things around, than it did with him doing what's best for the team.

SN, I also think they interviewed Frazier for the job, which I wouldn't have minded - I've always liked that his players love him and he always puts a competitive unit on the field.

Fans may not like it or agree, but I think this is absolutely true. At the time, I remember thinking the same thing. Who else is there? It wasn't like there were several coaching legends waiting for Jerry to call.

I wasn't that thrilled with the hire at the time, but I wasn't against it either. Heh...a funny analogy just popped into my head. You know when you're playing fantasy football and, oh, say Romo goes down for 8 weeks...you look at the waiver wire, and you're best option is Josh Freeman?

I think it was kinda like that for Jerry at the time.

Most folks would've taken it and would've been grateful. I think fan discontent can be blamed on two things.

1) Some folks just never liked Wade. They didn't like the hire. They didn't like his sideline demeanor or how he handled the Dallas media. His folksiness aggravated people.

2) Some people just didn't see the progress that they felt the team should be making. That is something I can understand. The defense has been a solid group, but I've never thought they were championship level. The offense was definitely dynamic and carried the team, at times, but the team still had to suffer thru Romo's growing pains as a starter.

But like you said, something happened this year, I'm sure we'll speculate about it for years. I'm sure there was a bit of ego involved, but I also think Jerry really thought the team could turn it around. Romo going down kinda short-circuited everything.

SN, I also think they interviewed Frazier for the job, which I wouldn't have minded - I've always liked that his players love him and he always puts a competitive unit on the field.
Yes, I knew I was forgetting some folks. He interviewed Frazier, but he was always a 4-3 guy. I don't know how Jerry felt about switching back after heavily investing into 3-4 players so recently.

My hopes as a fan are fairly simple. I want a championship, but I realize championships are hard to attain. I want a competitive team every year. I want this team to be playing for something at the end. This year sucks to me for that reason alone. The guys aren't playing for anything but pride and spoiler purposes.

Ha! That's a pretty good analogy...
