Remember how they like to say deadlines make deals........Monday is do or die coz official reporting day for offseason programs/workouts. Under CBA, they CAN NOT stop Dez from attending as long he's under contract. Of course, if he reports and is injured, they have to pay his entire 2018 salary.

Of course, Fridays gives time to get the paperwork to league office before Monday.

Interesting point. Hadn't thought about the "injury at The Star" implications.

Come to Jesus meeting, paycut, or bye. You can make a good case for any of them.

Am I the only one that finds this meeting odd between Dez and JJ? If this was about taking a pay cut or restructuring his contract going forward, shouldn't that meeting be between Dez's agent and the team?

It would make more sense if this meeting was being held for other reasons ie conduct, commitment, work habits, route running, attitude or character, or simply all the above.

As I have been saying for weeks, it would be a huge mistake to release or cut him a just a week or 2 away from the draft and force us to tip our hand heading into the draft.

what am I missing here?

I think you are missing that Jerry would like to cut him in person, face-to-face, out of respect.

Agree
I think it is more a 'come to Jesus' meeting with Dez and his only supporter in the building

Learn the offense and the routes and behave or this is your last season

Pretty stupid that they are waiting until the last minute to have this "meeting".

Jerry is obviously going to ask for something if he is calling for a meeting. Will Dez give it and what will happen if he doesn't is the question.....?

I’m afraid Linehan thinks this is equivalent to a Stafford saying he’d be better without Calvin.

Problem is Dak is not Stafford

What does this Owner/President/GM/Socks&Jocks Coordinator do that isn’t weird? I think Jerry is a pretty good dude...and a terrible NFL GM.

The fact that it’s mid April and this situation is in the shape it is in and the all the while the HC says he knows nothing, hasn’t discussed this situation with the FO and hasn’t spoken to Dez. It’s crazy. And crazy doesn’t often work in the NFL.

Yeah it's definitly the mobster thing to do. Dez will sit down at the long table and god-father Jones will inform dez to get out now or take a ride with Johnny boy and sal in the 1940 Lincoln coupe....just a field trip, nothing too harmful, I promise!

If it is a pay cut, I expect it comes with incentives and guaranteed money over the next two years. I'd expect his full 12.5 mill this year to be guaranteed (but split over 2 years) with incentive to get him back to the original salary. Meeting those incentives would then trigger an escalator that brought Dez back to his original 2019 salary (or maybe a bit higher).

In short, take a pay cut over the next two years and you still get the 12.5 mill we owe you.

"Dez, I'm about the only friend you've got here that matters. The coaches are frustrated with you, the personnel department is questioning your value. Your actions and emotions are negatively affect the team. You're late for practice and meetings. It's getting hard to defend you. There are people here that think it's best we just cut ties with you and move on. They don't think you're worth the money with all that added up.

"I need your word that these things will be addressed, by you, starting right now. I won't be there next time to go to bat for you like this. Don't let me down."

Something like that, I expect, and he's still here.

Dez stays on a restructured deal.
face to face with the 2 major players.
get it all out in the open.
clear the air.
nothing good comes from agents and lawyers being involved....let the 2 main principals do it...it wont get volatile because they both seem to get along with each other.
If Dez wont agree to restructure...his exit will occur on or before the draft.
If he wants to retire a Cowboy...he'll restructure...do whats good for the team.
I still say....in the end....he's a Cowboy til they prove me wrong.
