Keep Dez. Jerry needs to buy him a new Pet Monkey. Dez ain’t been the same since he gave away Dallas.

Everyone is already coming to the conclusion he will be cut. You would think something that big, his agent would be around Dallas, at the very minimum a phone call would have been made already. We have heard none of that. This may just be a sit down to restructure and a scolding from Jerry to tell him to clean up his antics. I don't see them cutting Dez, especially because of Linehan, when if we have a bad year the whole freaking coaching staff will be gone. It makes 0 sense

We only save 8 mil by cutting him with no replacement. Is he worth 8 mil the answer is yes.
if he's a designated june 1 cut, we save 12.5 million but he will count 4 million next year against the cap.

They have have this resolved before workouts start Monday. If they don’t and Dez doesn’t show up it is a huge story that the guys around here will not shut up about.

If the coaches don’t want him back and he shows up he will know they don’t want him and I don’t even want to know what happens then..

12.5 million reasons to release him now if he won't take a pay cut. Players report for official offseason workouts Monday. Suppose Dez reports and is injured.......guess who's on the hook for his entire 2018 salary

Yeah, ok. That makes perfect sense.

The team is stupid if they do anything with his deal. At the end of the day it's still 8 million total. If the front office had any brains they either trade him or let him play out his contract.

Funny enough as I soak this all up, I’m starting to lean away from them cutting him. Too much telegraphing and speculation, Jerry respects his guys too much for that. Think he stays and the convo is convincing the pay cut or extending him.

That's my best guess as well.
If that were the case, this would have been completed some time ago. and do not do this so discreetly, Dez need to take a pay cut to stay, or they're going to find a way to get something for him, before cutting him,

My two cents..if Dez is cut then the FO has handled this whole thing super poorly since they struck out (thankfully) on Watkins. They have killed any trade value and tarnished a team guy. I don't believe they are that stupid tho some would argue. That's why I believe they haven't cared how it 'looks' since striking out because once that fizzled the plan B was to restructure Dez instead of replacing him. My thought is that's why in every interview since then they haven't acted like either Stephen or Jerry were in a hurry. Deadlines make deals as Jerry likes to say and the plan is now to keep and restructure rather then replace. At least they better...or they really have screwed this whole thing up.

He will take a pay cut and play for the Cowboys this season.

We will see. It's possible. I didn't think he would take a pay cut but the Cowboys have given him a long time to chew on it and consider it. Well played so far by the Cowboys.

As usual, they have allowed this to be made public and it's set up as a win-lose situation. How many GM's and players privately meet without the fanfare of an announcement?

If they were interested in getting him to come off his salary, they've gone about it all wrong with a guy like Bryant. All of this should have been out of the public's ears and eyes. And by letting this drag out this long and the Watkins rumor, they may have built a situation that neither can live with and that's a shame because that means they'll go WR in the 1st and they will have mismanaged their way into a needs pick that does not help the team.

I think they will talk to him and determine what Dez will take as a pay cut. Then they will either meet his price or you will hear nothing until after the draft. That's most advantagious to the team. It's likely not beneficial to Dez.

I totally disagree. If they had gone to Bryant he would have made a snap decision and turned it down since he already said he wasn't talking a pay cut. By going the public route everyone is talking about it so Dez has to think about his decision a bit more objectively.

Dez still might not accept a pay cut, but if the Cowboys really want to keep him they went about it the right way.

One other thing is that this time of year teams create smoke screens to throw off other teams regarding their draft intentions. The Cowboys may be talking to Dez and have no intention to cut his salary (smoke) or more likely they could have already decided that they are going to cut him and they could be doing this to look like they aren't going to draft a receiver high.

I could see that happening. It'd give us the leverage to move on next year if needed while also giving us cap space to work with throughout the draft. I'd be fine with that move.
A restructure without a pay cut would be the most idiotic move the Cowboys could possibly make.
