Again, schemes are schemes, but at one point the bloke doing the daily heavy lifting is OC Adams. Junior wasn't edged out of Seattle for no reason. And now The Seahawks are flying high.
It mystfies me keen mind why Adams does not get more love.
Define “heavy lifting “.
If you mean the day to day running of meetings and practices and sitting in with position groups, yeah. That’s his role. But he doesn’t do what is traditionally considered the work of an offensive coordinator.
It’s not his offense
It’s not his playbook
They aren’t his playcalls
It’s the same thing that happened to Schottenheimer here last year with McCarthy and the same as many other teams
Chiefs? Andy Reid has run the Chiefs like this forever. He’s famous for his 15 play opening script and calls the plays. Now it’s Matt Nagy in the Adam’s role, but for years it was Eric Bienemy and it was why he never got a HC job.
Who’s the OC for Ben Johnson in Chicago? A guy named Declan Doyle, a tight ends coach
What about the Rams? Sean McVay does what Schottenheimer does. The playbook is his. The play calling is his. Mike Lafleur does what Adam’s does.
Saints? Kellen Moore has the playbook, the offense and the play calling. Doug Nussmeier has the Adam’s role.
I have no beef with Adams at all and I’m glad to have him but he has that “pet cat” status with fans that comes with buzz and little risk and the mystery and the unknown is sexy to fans.
I’d love to see him get the chance to be a true offensive coordinator but that’s not going to happen here.
A guy like Ben Johnson was an OC who *did* call the plays for Campbell offense. That’s how he got the Bears job.
I hope he stays cause he provides great value but there’s no way to even know how he could perform as an OC at this point.
