Jerry on Linehan: Why would I put a statement out when we might have an opportunity next week?

Bob Stoops is mulling coming out of retirement to coach again. That's why I think Jerry could change his mind. Its a longshot, but Jerry has been talking to him.
There’s no evidence to support this aside from he was in LA Saturday

Jones is not waiting out some rock star coach.

He is doing this to all of you though.

Jerry really needs to learn the value of an unexpressed thought.

So basically, he just undercut his current OC because he thinks he can get a better one next week but if he can't, then oh boy, we are stuck with the OC that he didn't really think was all that good anyway since I was looking to upgrade anyway.
This. Our GM is playing checkers when everyone else (including the media) is playing chess. I wonder if JJ ever thought to take a page out of Belichick s book and snub the media, say “we’re evaluating all personnel and I’ll get back to you later, next question”.

I'm gonna die laughing when we hire Kellen Moore as OC, I can see it now Jerry Jones says "Kellen Moore had at least 4 offers to be a OC but we outbid all the other teams for his services

Jerry has always been someone who likes to make some news during the Super Bowl Bye week. Wouldnt surprise me if Linehan is fired during that time if his candidate is still coaching in SB

What are you basing that on?
He wasn't a starter
Dak has been dogged and talked about all season, that is a direct reflection on the QB coach as well as the OC.

I'm not sure I even remember KM being a good player, why assume he is a good coach?

Good question. He was OK in Boise St, but he didn't do squat here. Just another of Jerry's dumb projects.

I know some may laugh but, I'd love to see Tony Romo get into coaching. After watching him play for a decade plus, & now listening to him in the booth... He knows football schematics. He very much understands what teams are doing, & how to counter it, etc. He would be a good coach. Problem is, nobody is going to pay him what he's making in the booth, to start as a QB coach. I think he could come in off the street so to speak, & be a better OC than Linehan.

But what he wouldn't tell you, every single one of those offers were from Pop Warner teams.

This is just a big mess if you have lost trust in your OC just cut him loose. This organization has enough resources to eat up his salary. Now the relevant question is why bring a new OC unless they are planning on extending JG which should scare every Cowboys fan.

I wish they'd let JG play out next season first. If I'm not mistaken, he's under contract through the '19 season. Make him coach for a contract. Make him dig deep, & progress..... or not. If not, ba-bye. Like you stated, the organization has the resources. The only advantage to signing him to an extension now, is if he wins the SB next year, he'd obviously command a higher contract. Thing is, Jerry gonna over pay him regardless. Why not leverage the contract on success, instead of continuing to pay for mediocrity. 10 seasons is plenty of time for any coach to turn a team into a champion. Either you can, or you can't. It's really that simple. Besides, if it doesn't work out, he could always move Garrett to the front office where he belongs anyways......
