For the first time in a long time ESPN had a good point. The Phins did Jerry a favor last year in letting Jerry hire Garrett. Is Ireland or Sparano going to be a pay back?

how is that a good point? the Phins could have said "negative jerry" and thus he would have still been a dolphin.

Usually when people have a relationship it is give and take, no will help you out in the future if you dont return the favors on occassion. In the Ireland situation you can argue he is more important to the franchise then Garrett was in Miami but Sparano is in a similar role here to what Garrett was there.

I don't think Jerry is going to do the Dolphins a favor as big as giving them our head of scouting/personnel!

Favor? Yes, absolutely.

Owed back? No, but I won't be at all surprised if Jerry feels he does.

i understand what you mean now (i scratch your back you scratch mine). Ship them Sparano i dont wanna give you Ireland :). I wouldn't mind them taking a look and if they put an offer on the table, i wont be completely upset with him, after all i'm sure he wants to be a GM some day

Im not advocating a side, Im just posing a question.

I agree that Ireland would be more then a favor but letting them have Sparano might not be a bad idea.

The Dolphins didn't let us have Jason Garrett.

Wayne Huizenga gave Jerry Jones a small window to hire Garrett and he had to be calling plays in order to make the move. That meant head coach or offensive coordinator, and it's also why Jerry had to hire Red before naming a head coach.

Huizenga's offer would've expired before Jerry had enough time to hire a new head coach and consult with him of Garrett's qualities.

It was nice of Huizenga to do that, but it isn't like lame duck assistants don't go ahead and find jobs all the time instead of waiting for their old teams to name new head coaches.

So it wasn't that big of a favor, IMO.

And hiring an assistant coach is no where close to snagging away a general manager or head coach.

The Fish may try to do both.

what Jeff Ireland wants ?

I'd love for Ireland to come out and say that he's happy where he's at and that he's not looking anywhere else, but what about if he wants to work for the Dullphins ? I don't think Jerrah has the moral authority to say no to Ireland after he got " Red " and I don't think he would prevent Ireland from leaving if that's what he wanted. Jerrah has always been a classy guy when it came to situations like this.

Garrett could have easily said no and that would have been the end of that, but the Dullphins still were gracious enough to give him the opportunity and I think the Cowboys should do the same.

What Jerrah should do, however, is let Ireland know that he ( Jerrah ) would like an opportunity to counter the Dullphins offer if he ( Ireland ) is interested.

it would be fair to offer Sparano the shot at Mia b/c he'd really be moving up the ladder, regardless of his nominal title in Dallas.

Ireland on the other hand is too important to let go without a big fight

True. I'm sure Jerry doesn't think losing Ireland is that big a deal since he is probably feels he's the real mastermind when it comes to personnel.

No team can refuse staff the right to get a promotion. Dolphins did not do us a favor they actually made it tougher by confining the window when we could interview.

It was an upward move going from QB coach to Offensive Coordinator. If Garrett wanted to go, there's nothing the Fins could have done about it. There was no favor being done by Miami.

If the Fins want Sporano to be the head coach, there's really nothing Jerry can do about it.

Ireland may be tricky since he could be offered the GM position, but the duties and responsibilities would be no greater than what is offered in Dallas. Then again, I'd be a little surprised if Ireland went there to be Parcells' gofer.

Actually they can refuse unless someone is interviewing for head coach. Yea they made it tough by giving a window but they didnt have to give Jerry that window to hire him as a coordinator.

Actually he's been very complimentary of the entire staff and their contributions. I'm sure he realizes where the hard work and success ar coming from.

If Ireland is getting the Final Say as GM then talk to us.

But they basically want him to do the same thing there as he does here except he has the title GM.

Exactly.

They can have Sporano and we will call it even. :)

I'll prolly get shelled for this but... I'd be less concerned about "repayment" of any perceived debt than I would be about somebody on the staff wanting to be someplace else.

If they wanna go... I say let 'em. :p:
