Boxing is not, and will never be, what it used to be.

I think Jerry's aim is a little off on this one.

Oh for the days of Ali vs Frazier, Duran vs Leonard or Hearns vs Hagler etc etc. Real fights!

With the top fights on PPV they've lost my interest. The boxers / boxing maybe be as good but I just don't care any more.

Because it is more than him involved. When it comes to the stadium and marketing his son Jerry Jones Jr. plays a big role in that aspect.

I realize it's more than him..but it's still a lot of hats..and he's not exactly a hands off kinda guy.

I'm assuming he sleep about 2 hours a night..

I think when others are doing most of the leg work such as Jerry Jones Jr it becomes allot more manageable for Jerry.

On the nosey!

I have a huge collection of all those fighters on DVDs.

Foreman, Arguello, Pryor, Holmes, Norton...too.

The golden era, I suppose.

I haven't watched a fight in years.

Opened your eyes? To what?

Never mind, I really don't want to know. Forget I asked.

A simple "no" or "I don't agree" would have been fine but whatever floats your boat, sir.

I refuse to pay to see a sport as corrupt as boxing. I have seen way too many fights where the judges scoring in no way was close to what was taking place in the ring. As long as promoters like Don King is involved in the sport I will not bother wasting my time with it

Just stating my opinion. The quote opened my eyes a little, pushing the NFC Championship below boxing; he didn't have to compare the two.

WTH are you talking about?

He did not push the NFC game below boxing! Once the NFC event was not going to happen, what did you want him to do? Sit around and cry about it for months on end like, maybe you are doing?

Once something does not work out, you move on to the next thing. It's just business sense.

I was at the Hagler vs. Leonard fight at Caesar's Palace.

Hagler fan here. IMO, Leonard whipped him. Hagler always denied this. I don't know how he could.

Jerry Jones: I want Cowboys Stadium to be the 'Madison Square Garden' of boxing

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently talked about the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey fight at Cowboys Stadium on March 13 to ESPN Radio:
Some highlights:
"I spent two days in Mexico. They are such huge boxing fans, the biggest boxing fans in the world today are Mexican sports fans. That aligns beautifully with our fans, with what we want to do with the Dallas Cowboys. I was still heart-broke over not getting to play in the (NFC) championship game, but there I was, talking it up because I know what boxing might could mean to our stadium.
"We'll drop (the Stadium big screen) down probably another 25, 30 feet for the fight. I could envision some classic fights annually. ... I really think that we could be really be a special place to fight. ... Maybe we could be like Madison Square Garden when it comes to boxing."

Thoughts: I always believed Jerry was a salesman first, then a passionate NFL owner. Quotes like these just make me wonder about the guy.

Why? Because he didn't just close down the stadium and give up on everything else?

Oh my, you caught a piece of history.

I saw it on closed circuit...Ray Leonard fan here.

I saw George Foreman on "Up Close" a few nights ago...talking about the brilliance of what Leonard did in that fight...he said, on more than one occasion, "Truly you'd have to be a boxer to appreciate the subtle stuff he did that night"

And how entertaining was Angelo Dundee that night? I have the fight on DVD...Dundee really worked some magic...including yelling "Where'd he go Marvin?" every time Hagler missed in the early rounds.

their's no draw in boxing right now and the 2 guys who you could call a draw can't come to an agreement on a fight. Boxing is a dying sport in terms of fans.

I think the real issue that isn't being articulated well is that our GM is off planning boxing matches, hanging out at the NBA All-Star game, and attending the Olympics. Other teams' fans would express outrage if their GM was spending so effort on non-football activities. If Robert Kraft is off planning an event to rival the Gloucestershire Cheese Roll at his stadium or if Malcom Glazer is negotiating to have the next Pirates of the Carribean filmed on the pirate ship at Raymond James, nobody gives a rip. If Bruce Allen is trying to get a Native American casino license at Fed Ex instead of publically commenting only on football matters, you know Skins fans are going to be outraged. That's the criticism you face as a self-appointed owner/GM, and it's not hard to figure out why the criticism might have a little bit of merit. If Jerry's truly delegating all of these activities, then why not let his minions be the talking heads to comment on them?

Sorry about the typo - that should have been "so much effort" in my post. Trying to edit posts on this site via my phone is an exercize in futility.

This is jerruh. He can move from one project to the next and give his all on each. I have no doubts that the Cowboys is the #1 priority on his mind above all else- BUT he has a lot of other hats on the rack and he needs to keep that stadium busy pumping out money. He wants to get the note paid off quickly and build up a big cash reserve so that he does not have to borrow again no matter what he wants to do. NOT to mention as a smart business man he has to be making contingency plans about next year. AND I have no doubt that he is already wanting to stow some money away for a renovation to the stadium in 5-10 years.

Judas Freaking Priest!

It is only 2 weeks past when real football was played and already this crap is pushing my buttons. The Draft can't get here soon enough for me. It just can't. I don't think I can take much more of this.

Indeed.....
