Which is why I have no problem with his ranking on the top 100.

If it is across position, he is probably the only player that is not debatable.

Thus forcing him in the #1 spot.

i agree, i know i'm a bit biased but i'd argue that sanfran would've still won without him, mostly. I think top tier is Walter, Emmitt, Peyton M., and Tom Brady. Emmitt may not rank as the best RB of all time, but IMO he was one of the best football players without the most heart and sheer will. He also caught the ball a lot and flat out made his team a champion...3x. Without him we don't win 3x SBs. I think the same for the others I listed.

Even if (Big IF) Henderson had the same kind of Talent, it wouldn't have been used in Landry's 4-3 the way Taylor was used with the Giants.

Hendeson had every bit the talent but threw it all away on drugs, especially cocaine. Funny, cocaine is something else they have in common...

I can live with Jerry Rice at #1, his stats are so far ahead of anyone else that played his position.

I know that the league has become more pass friendly over the years, but his stats stand up.


The thing that really grates, is the fact that no Cowboy player makes the Top 25.

That fact alone signals that this list isn't worth squat !

*Peyton Manning doesn't deserve to be in the top 10 all-time at this point...that's ridiculous. By the time Peyton retires, he'll be in the top 5 and maybe considered as the top guy, but that's all projection. At this point in his career, comparing him to the all-time greats, including guys who won 3-4 SB's and guys who put up huge #'s before the NFL became a pass-first league, NO WAY, not yet.

You dream, Sir....Henderson had speed, but he had nowhere near the power, instincts, or ferocity of LT.

It's ludicrous to even mention him in the same breath...LT was not just a pass rusher...he punished RB's and receivers, and he made plays all over the field.

You must also consider that Rice was in a offense that defenses weren't designed to defend. Teams struggled to cover the short stuff leaving Jerry free to reak havoc. If you have him in a standard pro offense, while he still would have likely been great, he would not have reached the level he did in the wco.

I could never give you a top guy, but Rice would be in the top five.

Coming back to this thread, I'd like to put Ray Lewis in there as the greatest player of all time, because not only does he make plays, but he intimidates opposing players, coaches, and even lawyers and jurors to the point where he can stab a man to death and not even miss a game.

The west coast offense is designed on pass pass pass even to the rb's. It's easier to stack up numbers than say in the Don Coryell offense that uses as much or more run plays than pass. Emmitt took a lot of passes away from Aikman, Irv, Novacheck and a horde of others because of our offense. Furthermore, Irvin's injury and spinal cord made him retire early. There's only so many balls to go around in football and if you aren't on the catching end in a west coast offense ur numbers are going to suffer. That's why NUMBERS only tell part of a story and tend to lie when used by themselves. If you remember how T.O. came in and showed clear supreriority to Rice in S.F. and Rice pitched a fit and hence onto oakland. He was the second best reciever in Oakland behind T. Brown in my view. So for me give me an argument outside of numbers and what all those butt kissing analyst have to say about any ball player. I never seen Irvin shy away from hits and contact but I surely watched Rice do that.

i am more peed about the best OL man in larry allen being in the 90's. How many guys went to the pro bowl as a G thern a LT??? He was every bit as dominant as John Hannah imo

He greatly benefited from those who delivered the mail,aka QBs.
Montana and Young.Both HOFs Qbs.
Was he the greatest WR ever?..his work ethic is unmatched.
We can talk about it,and yes he is in the debate hands down.
He also tarnished his legacy by hanging around too long and being cut by Denver.

Totally assinine statement. It is amazing how many people say things like that and have no idea what they are saying

It is also amazing what being strung out on cocaine allowed Taylor to do....

How is Jerry Rice the #1 player of all time? People say, "well, look at his numbers." but they don't do that wit Emmitt do they? Emmitt is at #28 or something and he was a bigger part of the offense than Jerry was in his.

Jim Brown is the greatest player of all time without a doubt. There is no way a WR can possibly be the greatest player because he only touches the ball about 5 times a game while a RB like Emmitt or Brown touches the ball over 20 times a game.

I would put Rice at #6 behind:

1. Jim Brown - Totally dominated his era.
2. Johnny Unitas - Yep, that's right, he is The Man.
3. Joe Montana - Can't argue with success.
4. Emmitt Smith - Far more important to his team than Rice was.
5. Lawrence Taylor - Most dominant defensive player ever.

People forget that Johnny Unitas wasn't just a QB but he called the plays and was a great OC. It was his play-calling as much as his throwing ability that made him great. He was the standard that every other QB was measured by for most of the last 40 years.

Very close to what I would say, but I'll take Rice over Emmitt or Montana.
