Man, the stuff people rag about. Everyone knows what Jerry means, when he says "I" in this type of statement.
It is no different that a fan saying "we" in a statement. When in fact the fan has nothing to do with the team. Just as Jerry has nothing to do with that game plan or plays.
Jerry was even asked that question on NFLN Sunday morning. Jerry said no, he is not and never has been involved in game planning or personnel. But he is privy to the info before the games.
As an owner or CEO, would you not want to know what is going on in your company, as well, the competition.
That's true to a degree because Jerry does think of himself as a fan as well and in many cases, that is exactly how (and only how) he is speaking when he shares his opinions on things like that.
That said, he does have a history of pushing his opinions on to the coaching staffs over the years through direct means or media quotes that propagate through media questions to the coaches (ex: "Jerry said this, what do you think, coach?").
While I do think he has lessened his influence and control over the last few years, it is still hard to ignore all of the years before that when his opinions were more than just opinions and had more impact on the operation of the team.
In the end though, that is the side effect of being both the team owner and the GM and as long as he maintains that GM title, even if in a ceremonial sense, his words are always going to carry more weight with the media and fans regardless of his intentions.
