Scandrick to safety is a Jerry Smokescreen and tells me that at #51 the Cowboys will be selecting a Safety most likely Patrick Chung from Oregon. I just think Jerry is trying to throw teams off a little as to what the Boyz are wanting to do by making Teams picking around them think the Boyz are looking elsewhere other than the Safety position. In College Scandrick weighed 187 lbs and I just don't see this being sufficient for the Safety position. I know Patrick Chung is not the biggest Safety in the world buthes play the spot and played it well, where Scandrick is more of a CB and plays it very well. I just feel this is a Smokescreen !!!

Ed Reed 5'11 200
Troy Polamulu 5'10 207
Bob Sanders is 5'8" 208
Patrick Chung 5'11 212

I mean he's small compared to the late Sean Taylor or Adrian Wilson.

How is that a smokescreen?

You smokescreen if you've got a really high pick, not with #51 overall

Actually, you can smoke screen with any pick. If your FIRST pick is in the SECOND round, you will definitely throw up some decoys so some of those teams that pick twice before you don't snatch up your first choice.

I agree though, I think they like one of the safties in this draft, not sure who it is but I've got a feeling we may not even get a shot at Chung.

Lookit, if we can figure out that there is a need at safety, other teams know it as well. Currently, we have what, ONE safety with any legitimate game experience on the roster. Duh, everyone knows we need a safety - our willingness to move Hamlin to SS suggests that we need one so bad that we will look at both FS and SS.

Yes, which is why they might be trying to throw a smokescreen by suggesting that Scandrick may be moved to FS.

If we have a willingness to move Hamlin to SS, I haven't see it. Roy was gone all of last year and we plugged in every scrub on our roster at SS rather than move Hamlin.

He's talking about the switch with Scandrick to the star safety.

First, moving guys around during the season is often the last thing you want to do. When was the last time that a player who spent any time on the field changed positions mid-season for us?

Second, by even suggesting that we might move Hamlin - it send the message that we are desperate for Safety help. If anything it tells teams that if you want a safety, regardless of whether it is a FS, SS, or even a too slow CB, you better get ahead of us.

I'm not sure you understand. I'm not arguing with you as to our need at safety.

You said you smoke screen only when you have a "really high pick", and that's not the case.

Honestly, I don't think Chung is the answer for Safety. His size aside, he plays with great instincts, but lacks the overall speed and physicality that the position demands.

How about Some Macho Harris? Played DB in Va. Tech. Ball hawk, good punt returner, tackles and might be too slow to play DB in the pro's.

I'm not sure where you get your reports, maybe you've got insider info that says differently but both your claims seem to be contradicted elsewhere.

Speed:

Felix Jones:

Patrick Chung:

Physicality:

02/18/09 - A slick athlete with the unusual ability to play with agility and aggression, Chung displays natural instincts in coverage and run support. His tackling technique is textbook and devastating. This adds up to a player who can impact a game as an enforcer despite the fact that he is average as a ball hawk and sometimes is a step slow helping out over the top. - Frank Cooney, The Sports Xchange, NFL Draft Scout

01/20/09 - 2009 Senior Bowl Monday Practice: Oregon's Patrick Chung is a bit more versatile, looking smooth for his position in drills and able to play in the box without fear. Louis Delmas (Western Michigan) also exhibited sideline-to-sideline range as a free safety. - Chad Reuter, The Sports Xchange, NFLDraftScout.com

03/03/09 - 2009 ALL-RANG'S GANG: Strong Safety: Patrick Chung, Oregon: Few players were a greater lock to make Rang's Gang than Chung. A 51-game starter for the Ducks, Chung's speed, instincts and reliable open-field tackling will quickly establish him as an NFL starter. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

So if there is a knock against him, it's his hands and as always, deep coverage. There is also some talk that he may be a little on the short side to match up against NFL TE's, but as has been stated, some of the best safeties in the league as his size.

Do not get caught up in 40 time for Chung.

He is a DB and flat forty time is not the real judge of anything. Chung is a speedy guy straight ahead but he is also stiff itn he hips like RW and a better fit as a pure SS type.

Also Scandrick is being asked to play a hybrid safety position that is meant as a coverage guy. It is called the star position. It will allow Dallas to almost always have TNew, Scandrick and Jenkins on the field provided they are all healthy.

I do believe we draft safety fairly high.

Agree about drafting a safety/corner. Losing RW, Pacman & Henry kind of forces our hand.

If you've got loose hips and ran a 4.4, you probably play CB, not safety.

You also have to keep in mind that OUR first pick is not a first rounder, so people can't keep expecting us to draft a 1st round talent.

If we get lucky that's one thing, but the fact that we don't have a first rounder actually does mean something. If you're expecting a safety drafted in the middle of the second round to have the same rep and ability as Ed Reed or LaRon Landry coming out of college, you've got another thing coming.

When you're talking second round, you're talking guys like Roman Harper, Daniel Bullocks, Bryan Scott and so on.
