Ok

Regular season fluff.

The Commanders ownership group, after initiating significant change, goes to the NFCCG in their first year. Their off season was add Samuel, Tunsil, Wise, Kinlaw and J. Jones in free agency. Apparently losing to Philly in the playoffs did not sit well with them.

Cowboys trade for Pickens in the off season and suddenly the team is ready to compete for the division title and playoff wins?
Trading for Pickens is not the only thing the Cowboys have done this offseason, so why lie? Why not tell the whole truth of what they have fully done so far?

I think they outsmarted themselves.

Pickens will be with us for one season. As much as Jerry adores WR's, he's not going to pay two of the highest WR salaries in the league.

That means the Cowboys are right back to square one in 2026. Unless another current Cowboy has a breakout, they will have to address the position in the next draft.

And even if another WR has a breakout, it will mean that they wasted a 3rd round pick on Pickens, a player they never needed in the first place.

Here is a spot where I think team mgt made a good choice. They passed on Bill Belichick. I know several on here wanted him as the next head coach. With the added distractions around him these days, can you imagine the carnival atmosphere if he was HC of Cowboys.? It would've been a mess.

Ok.

They brought in a bunch of JAGs in FA. They just did it earlier than usual so everyone thinks they did a good job for some reason.

If you disagree. Other than Fowler show me a player that makes this team better than last season.

They traded for a few guys who were previous first rounders and are hoping a change of scenery helps them actually be football players because as of now they haven’t been. (The LB for Tennessee intrigues me though)

Then the draft. Which until they traded for Pickens didn’t include a WR.

Now they have traded for Pickens who Mike Tomlin. One of the most respected coaches in the entire NFL couldn’t control.

Oh. And this is all after the laziest HC search I’ve ever seen.

What did I miss?

So…Jerry and Co. burn the team’s 2025 4th round draft pick, when Dallas’ picks are a precious commodity as the team builds solely through the draft, on a 2nd round WR, who over the span of two-years couldn’t crack the starting line-up of the team that drafted him and was a non-factor in Dallas last season. Then Jerry trades multiple draft picks (granted mid/late round picks) for another 2nd round WR, who at least was productive, but had a history of behavioral and attitude issues who clearly needs discipline and structure, both of which have been historically lacking here in Dallas, and essentially negates the trade made for Mingo,
Well maybe the Cowboys’ stellar culture will foster a renaissance in both players’ careers.
Yeah…Jerry hoodwinked everybody on the NFL.

Funny how the trade for Pickens has some fans all giddy over Jerry and the FO. lol We’ve seen nothing but Jerry bashing most of the offseason but now some fans are thanking Jerry and claiming he outsmarted everyone.

Stealers said there was little interest in Pickens. So the Cowboys were one of very few (possibly the only team) who called asking about him.

I do not define that as the Cowboys FO outsmarting everyone.
On a Steelers site it was reported the best offer they received for Pickens was a 4th.

So Jerry apparently decided to outsmart everyone and keep our 4th, so he offered a 3rd and 5th instead and even finagled a 6th out of it.

I actually think Jerry will pay Pickens, eventually. I expect them to franchise him for 26.

I see you left out the Campo years. Starting from 2000 seems a bit more natural than 2004.

You "outsmart" everyone by winning playoff games and Super Bowls and that's something that the Cowboys haven't done in 30 years.
..oh oh, someone always comes to spoil the party. I call them, "Shady's Sisters". If you know Shady, the Dallas hater, Philly mascot.

That's right, they could franchise him but doesn't that mean something like the average of the top 3 or top 5 WRs or something like that?

By the end of next season that could be 34 mil if that's right. I dunno, with Bland and Tyler Smith's contracts right around the corner?

Don't get me wrong, If I think what is going to happen really happen then that would be great but there always seems to be a price.

Any way that is a year away and anything can happen.
