Jerry thinks the team is close to contention

If he simply let Dak play out this year instead of signing him,(price tag would have been the same) the situation here could have hope for change.

An opportunity wasted once again.

I had envisioned a different proven HC that would pick his own future Qb.....
Or do what the Eagles did w/ Wentz and trade him while he still has value. Prior to last season, Dak was most likely worth a 1st plus. Now? Good luck.

Me too. To all of the above.
Yeah, I was for once "trying my best" to have cautious optimism when it appeared as though Jerry was gonna let him play it out last year.
And then the witching hour season opener signing came.

And then that kind of Jerry reality set in. Its the kind of stuff that can test even the most loyal of longtime fans.

Gotta just tough it out for 3 more years.
smh

Jerry Jones said said:
It's not smart to say that we're as good or better than the Eagles right now because they happen to be the world champs. So, I'm not going to be dumb there."
Too late. 30 years, 11 months and eight days late.

Watching NFL network this am. Lead block ripping the Cowboys to shreds. "All In" comment from Jerry mentioned from last year followed by the LEAST amount of money spent last year in free agency in the ENTIRE league. Folks we are currently a joke and they mentioned how much the fans are upset. Hopefully someone from the front office was watching.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on if Dallas is close to the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles: "This time last year, I thought we'd win the division. ... We're operating with a mentality of (being) very competitive with our division. Not just the Eagles, but with the division.

"The Eagles are a prime one to talk (about) because they are the world champs. You look good when you're the world champs, as it should be. But we'll see how it goes. It's not smart to say that we're as good or better than the Eagles right now because they happen to be the world champs. So, I'm not going to be dumb there."

The Cowboys are not close to the 2024 Eagles. However, things change every year. The Eagles re-signed Barkley and Baun so far. The question is can both players who had career years in 2024 repeat those performances? History says no. Then there is the question of injuries. The Eagles avoided serious injury problems in 2024 while the Cowboys and 49ers were decimated. The Lions defense was too. We'll see if the Eagles are as fortunate this year.

But even so, The Cowboys RBs situation, and WRs and DTs is not close what where the Eagles are. Even with a good draft we can't expect rookies to play like stars.

This team was 3-5 with Dak healthy last year. How in the world does he figure we have much chance of improving without going big in free agency? We have 2 great examples in our own division of what can happen when you draft well, cut the guys underperforming their contracts, and go sign some veteran free agents. How much more of a clue might Jerry require?

Yeah there should be some optimism that we could see some youth improvement on this team, but how quick we forget that they were pretty average to bad even when they were mostly healthy last year. To think that this team doesnt need multiple upgrades on both sides of the football would be a huge miss by Jerry.

It either says that he has no idea how to actually evaluate his football team, or his idea of contending is contending for the 7 seed.

If the next 2-3 years are anything but completely miserable to the point where Jerry finally quits and they bring in someone legit to turn it around, it’ll only delay things longer.

Sorry but that’s where this is realistically at. How can anyone have even the blind squirrel hope with these two up against the better and brighter minds running NFL teams nowadays?

At this point I’m looking forward to Jerry humiliating himself and going out on the bottom. That’ll hopefully encourage anyone named Jones to stay out of the way once they finally realize that they are in way over their heads. It’s going to take that 2-3 years at least though, and I can’t sit here and hope that they “make the playoffs” with no shot at a deep run and then still claiming they are “close.”

Even if they somehow win the Manning sweepstakes, they still won’t know what to do with it. They’ll claim poverty due to Daks dead money, which they are creating now and doing nothing with the current room.

Whatever it takes to get Jerry to quit and the kid to surrender is what I’m on board with, and that’s probably 2-3 years of 4-7 wins. Hopefully.

If nothing else, 86 year old Jerry trying sell the same nonsense at that point will be fun to watch. The time will come when the national media actually DOES start to humiliate him consistently. Fully deserved and then some.

Every team in the NFL gets their infusion of young talent every year. What separates us from the contenders is how we handle our aging veteran contracts and free agency. That's where we lose ground to the league. I saw today where SD cut Bosa lose. That's something Jerry never would have done. We would have extended him to lower his cap hit while expressing optimism that he can stay healthy. Jerry isn't looking to trade Hassan Reddick like Philly did.

It's like going into every offseason with a handicap vs the field.

If the Lions had stayed reasonably healthy they would have slept walked through the NFC. They were easily the best team.

Big part of things….they count on the draft pretty much entirely, but that’s something the rest of the league gets to do as well, and they don’t do much toward adding more picks. In fact the case of the opposite could be made with Lance/Mingo.

How is at all supposed to add up, and how do they not see that?
